Oakview Park, an Atlas Senior Living assisted living and memory care community in Greenville, SC, has informally ‘adopted’ a therapy bunny for the residents.
Six-week-old Lefy visits the residents of Oakview Park constantly and has changed a lot of lives for seniors who cannot visit their families due to the pandemic. Brittany Garfinkel, Lifestyles Director at Oakview Park, came up with the idea after seeing the bunnies at her mom’s home, who raises them. In addition to Lefy, her mom has said that Brittany can take as many rabbits as the residents want for as many days as they want. It’s been history from there with an immediate positive transformation for many of the seniors!
One resident had been unwilling to get out of bed or sit up. When Lefy visited her, she immediately sat up and reached for the rabbit. A smile appeared that hadn’t been seen in at least five months. Another resident smiled and laughed when she held Lefy, saying the rabbit made her day.
