“If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up the women and children to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.”

I believe in a collaborative approach to management and that particularly, in our industry, no one gets into it for the money. There are a lot easier ways to earn a living than a care associate in a senior housing community. People get into it because they are passionate about serving others, because they want to make a difference. Often times we just get jaded along the way. If we can tie in that personal mission to the Atlas Senior Living vision and work collaboratively with employees at all levels of the organization to help them see the vision and choose to be part of helping determine the path to get there, we can accomplish great things. People stop following a check list and start following a vision, personally making a difference.
This is more of a collaborative approach to management than most people are willing to accept, but if we can get there, it produces the best results. You see I am also a firm believer that the best solutions to most problems are found by those closest to the problem. The manager’s job is to facilitate that process, guide in a productive way; not to tell everyone what to do and how to best do there job.EADA10
