Volunteers welcome 🙂
Here at Madison Heights and Kelley Place we are always looking for and accepting volunteers to help assist with resident activities, monthly events and much more. We currently have several local churches and organizations who volunteer monthly to do activities with our residents as well as games, bible study and much more. Spring and Summer are upon us which means longer days and more beautiful weather for our Seniors to enjoy the outside and get some Vitamin C. Feel free to give us a call if you are interested in being a volunteer.

Senior and coping with aging
Include physical activity in your daily routine such as walking, swimming or other activities you enjoy doing. Regular moderate physical activity can help you maintain a healthy weight and lower your chance of heart disease. It is also important that our Seniors get enough sleep. Quality sleep plays a huge role in the healing and repair of your heart and blood vessels. Aim for seven to nine hours of sleep per night. Stress also plays a big role in aging. Manage your stress by mediation, taking walks and even just talking to a friend or loved one. The conversation can be a huge stress relief.
An Active Senior Mind
We all want to find ways to keep our mind as active as possible no matter the age. Here are a few tips to help. Keep your brain active by engaging in puzzles and games, by writing, by doing arts and crafts, by listening to music and most of all, by socializing. All of these are ways to provide mental stimulation for Seniors,

Recipe Spotlight:
Spicy Fried Chicken Pasta
Ingredients:
6 pieces cold, spicy fried chicken
6 cups cooked rotini pasta
6 boiled eggs, yolks separated
1 cup mayonnaise
1 tbsp Creole mustard
1/4 cup minced onions
1/4 cup minced celery
1 tsp chopped garlic
1/4 cup minced red bell peppers
1/4 cup minced green bell peppers
1/4 cup sliced green onions
1/2 cup sweet pickle relish
salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
To make this dish, start by getting 6 pieces of spicy fried chicken from your favorite fast food outlet. I recommend Popeyes. Cut the bone-in chicken into cubes, keeping the skin intact. In a bowl, mash egg yolks, then add mayonnaise and Creole mustard, blending well. Dice egg whites and add them to the mixture. Combine all other ingredients except the chicken and pasta, ensuring they’re coated with the sauce. Add rotini pasta and gently mix, then add the fried chicken cubes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve garnished with boiled eggs or additional pieces of hot fried chicken. Feel free to personalize the dish with your own seasoning blend. The key flavor comes from the seasoning on the chicken before frying.
