My name is Mary Morris Robinson, and I am married to Carlton Robinson. We reside in Eupora, MS, where we have 4 children, 13 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. I am a member of Liberty United Methodist Church, Heroines of Jericho (Rising Star #63). My hobbies are traveling, blue show, caring for others, and spending time with our grandchildren. I am currently employed at The Goldton at Adelaide Retirement Home; there I am living out my passion of caring for others and sharing my love. I am honored to receive the Employee of the Month Award.

-The Goldton at Adelaide has been the perfect setting for my dad. Everyone is so kind to him, the food is delicious, and there are so many activities to keep him occupied. The facilities are beautiful and are well-maintained, and the staff makes us all feel like family. It gives me great peace of mind to know that he can live independently while having excellent care available when needed.

Science reveals to us an abundance of reasons that stretching is beneficial for senior citizens’ health. Study after study demonstrates that stretching helps to improve well-being and prevent chronic diseases and conditions. This is of vital importance here in America.
Our government has determined that most chronic conditions are preventable. Stretching alone cannot typically prevent chronic conditions; it’s also important to do cardiovascular exercise, consume nutritious foods, refrain from smoking and refrain from abusing alcohol. These things, together with stretching, are some of the most important preventative measures senior citizens can take to protect themselves from chronic disease.

Holiday Pomegranate Salad

Holiday Pomegranate Salad

Ingredients:
FOR THE SALAD
7 cups mixed spring greens
1 1/4 cups orange segments mandarin (oranges, clementines or tangerines)
1/2 cup pomegranate seeds can (substitute dried cranberries)
1/2 cup feta cheese crumbled
1/2 cup candied pecans roughly chopped
FOR THE DRESSING
1/3 cup olive oil
1 tablespoon honey
2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1 tablespoon shallot minced
salt and pepper to taste

Directions:
Place the mixed greens, oranges, pomegranate seeds, feta cheese and pecans in a large bowl.
Place all the dressing ingredients in a small bowl, whisk until smooth.

Drizzle the dressing over the salad mixture to taste, then gently toss to coat. You may have dressing left over. Serve immediately.

Judy Demby

Mrs. Judy was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York as an only child. Mrs. Judy recalls fond, and some of her favorite, memories from living in New York. Once Mrs. Judy turned 13, her and her family moved all around the United States, and even across countries to visit Norway; Norway is where most of her family lives. She continued to travel throughout her Adulthood and became a Lead Nurse. She says how she has always “loved to help and take care of people and to make them feel better”, which perfectly reflects the kind, and thoughtful person that she is today. During her travels she has been married twice, relived in New York multiple times, and decided to retire in Starkville, Mississippi three years ago. We are so happy to have her as a part of our big family here at the Goldton at Adelaide!

How to Support a Caregiver

Whether you or someone you know is caring for a spouse, family member, or have been hired to support a senior who needs additional help, caregiving can be challenging no matter the circumstance. In fact, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, nearly 53% of caregivers have experienced a decline in their health that has impacted their ability to provide care.
Because of the stressful nature of the job, many caregivers experience elevated levels of depression and anxiety, a decline in physical health, and comprised immune function. While caregiving provides support to those who need it, caregivers often forget to care for themselves. If you are a caregiver or know someone who is, here are a few simple ways to make sure you’re getting the care you need to adequately provide support to those who need it.

-Recognize and Understand Hard Work
-Allow Time to Recharge
-Exercise Regularly
-Practice Self-compassion

More Ideas for How to Support a Caregiver
• Provide a listening ear when they need to talk through or vent about something.
• Offer to bring them something they enjoy or take them out for a little bit.
• Give them time to themselves without having to worry about their responsibilities.
• Offer to help them when you can so they don’t feel like they’re in their situation alone.
