Touring The Great Smoky Mountains! (All Month)

Celebrating January

1-18-23 Taste of the Smokies1-25-24 Ring in the New Year

Atlas Exploring The National Parks

What makes the Smoky Mountains smokey? The mist is formed from the vapor given off by all the plants in the mountains. When the vapor is released, the molecules that make up the gas scatter blue light from the sky, giving the fog its blue color.

Cades Cove

This beautiful misty mountain valley is perhaps the most popular spot in the park with its historic cabins, abundant wildlife, including black bears. The fall is the best time to visit providing excellent wildlife viewing opportunities and some of the best fall foliage found anywhere in the world.

Clingmans Dome

At 6,643 feet, Clingmans Dome is the highest point in Great Smoky Mountains National Park & Tennessee. On clear days you can see over 100 miles in any direction. The highest peak in the park is easy to access for visitors of all ages and abilities and a must for any visit

Tips and Tricks for the New Year!

Aging with Grace
Aging with Grace

1) Reach out to a distant relative or family member with whom you have always wanted to connect. Send an email or make a phone call. Work on your family tree or work on documenting your family history. This can become a fun project of its own. Want to share it with everyone? We would love to open that opportunity.

2)Schedule your first massage, try tai chi, or trade your coffee for green tea. Don’t put pressure on yourself to like the first thing you do. If you try an activity and decide it isn’t for you, try another (and another!) until you discover something you love. Many people who give up on wellness activities simply stop too soon. Be patient and stay determined.

3)One of the healthiest decisions you can make for your brain is to continually learn new things. Forge new pathways in your brain. Keep your mind fresh. Play brain games, listen to the news, take a class, and talk to people who have expertise in interesting and timely subjects.

You can also add brain boosting food to your diet, such as blueberries, broccoli, pumpkin seeds, and nuts. You may be glad to know dark chocolate is a brain boosting food as well!

Smokey Mountains Pralines

Ingredients:

Butter
Sugar
Brown sugar
Heavy cream
Corn syrup
Salt
Pecan halves
Chopped pecans
Vanilla extract

Line Three Sheets trays with foil and spray with cooking spray set aside. Place The butter, Sugar, brown sugar, heavy cream, corn syrup, and salt into a large pot or Dutch oven.

Place over medium-low heat and let the butter melt and sugars dissolve, stirring occasionally. Turn the heat up to medium stirring occasionally (make sure to scrape the bottom of the pan so nothing sticks) and bring to a low boil. Cook and stir occasionally until a candy thermometer reaches 236°F (soft ball stage) about 6-7 minutes.

Remove from the heat and add in the pecan halves, chopped pecans, and vanilla extract.

Stir in then do not stir again, allow the temperature to come down to 170°F, about 15 minutes.

Stir it around with a wooden spoon for about a minute to slightly let it cool, the mixture will still appear slightly glossy but will start thickening.

Immediately dollop heaping tablespoons of the mixture onto the prepared sheet trays not touching. Let them rest and harden for about 8 hours or overnight.

Serve and ENJOY!
