Lucretia Moten

Lucretia “LuLu” Moten

Please join us in celebrating our incredible Employee of the Month, Lucretia Moten! Fondly known as LuLu or simply Lou, she is a cherished member of our dining team here at Legacy Ridge Trussville.

Lucretia is the definition of dependable — always reliable, always ready to step in, and always leading with a positive attitude and a warm smile. She has a natural ability to take charge of any situation with grace and calm, making both residents and fellow team members feel supported and cared for.

Her dedication to our residents shines through in everything she does, and her hard work does not go unnoticed. We are so grateful for her commitment, compassion, and the joy she brings to our community every single day.

Thank you, LuLu, for all that you do — Legacy Ridge is better because of you!

Scottish Heart

Alexa play "The Mandolin Man and his secret" from "Donovan"

Appearing on Donovan’s 1967 double album A Gift from a Flower to a Garden fused psychedelic folk with childlike wonder, marking him as a true Scottish poet-storyteller.

The Mandolin Man and His Secret a whimsical tale wrapped in folk mysticism, where Donovan’s gentle voice dances with the strings and a lonely harmonica, conjuring a timeless dream-tale.

The Heart of Legacy Ridge: Our Volunteers

At Legacy Ridge Trussville, we believe some of the most meaningful moments come from simple acts of connection. Our volunteers play a vital role in creating those moments—whether it’s sharing a story, lending a listening ear, leading an activity, or simply sitting beside a resident to brighten their day.

Volunteers bring warmth, friendship, and joy into our community. Their time and presence make a lasting impact, especially for our residents in Assisted Living and Memory Care, who deeply appreciate every visit.

We are incredibly grateful for everyone who has taken the time to be part of our Legacy Ridge family. And if you or someone you know feels called to make a difference, we would love to hear from you. Please feel free to reach out to our Activities Directors, Asia Layfield or Michelle Keeton, to learn more about volunteer opportunities.

Your time could become someone’s favorite part of the day.

Welcome to Scotland

Scotland: The Land Beyond the Wall
When the Roman Empire pushed north into Britannia, it met fierce tribes the legions could never conquer. To mark the limit of their reach, the Romans built Hadrian’s Wall, and further north, the Antonine Wall — yet beyond lay the untamed lands we now call Scotland.

By the 8th century, Scotland began to take shape as a kingdom, often in conflict with its southern neighbor, England. Centuries of wars, heroes like William Wallace, and an enduring sense of independence defined its story. In 1707, Scotland formally united with England, creating Great Britain, which later grew into the United Kingdom alongside Ireland.

Still today, Scotland remains proudly distinct — with its Gaelic roots, tartans, castles, and legendary landscapes reminding the world of a culture that was never fully subdued.

Staying Active & Connected: The Importance of Events and Activities

The Importance of Events and Activities

At Legacy Ridge Trussville, our calendar is always full — and with good reason. Events and activities aren’t just fun ways to pass the time; they’re a vital part of supporting our residents’ overall well-being.

Whether it’s a group craft, a themed social, live entertainment, or a peaceful gardening session, every activity is thoughtfully planned with purpose. Engaging in daily activities promotes mental stimulation, physical movement, and emotional connection — all key ingredients for a healthy and fulfilling life.

Beyond the benefits, these moments help create friendships, spark laughter, and provide a strong sense of community and belonging. From memory care to assisted living, we see firsthand how meaningful these experiences are for our residents.

Recipe Spotlight:

Scottish Lentil Soup

Healthy & Hearty

Warm, comforting, and full of nutrients, Scottish Lentil Soup is a traditional dish with a healthy twist. Packed with fiber, protein, and vegetables, it’s perfect for a wholesome lunch or light dinner.

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon olive oil
1 onion, chopped
2 carrots, diced
2 celery stalks, diced
1 cup red lentils (rinsed)
1 garlic clove, minced
1 teaspoon ground cumin (optional)
4 cups low-sodium vegetable or chicken broth
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion, carrots, and celery. Cook for about 5 minutes, until softened.
Stir in garlic and cumin, and cook for 1 minute more.
Add red lentils and broth. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 25–30 minutes, or until lentils are soft.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Blend slightly with an immersion blender if desired, or serve chunky.
Garnish with fresh parsley.

Why We Love It:
This soup is rich in plant-based protein, naturally low in fat, and full of flavor. Lentils are a Scottish pantry staple and offer heart-healthy benefits while being gentle on the stomach and easy to prepare.

Resident of the Month

Bettie Brown

Bettie “BB” Brown

This month, we are overjoyed to shine a light on one of the most kind-hearted and beloved members of our Legacy Ridge family — Bettie Brown, affectionately known as “BB.”

BB is a true treasure. Her warm spirit, sweet nature, and gracious heart brighten every room she enters. She never complains, never fusses — instead, she leads with love, kindness, and unwavering positivity. She welcomes everyone with open arms and a heart full of compassion, always free of judgment and full of grace.

BB often shares stories about her cherished family, especially her late husband whom she adored, her two sons, and her precious “daughter in love.” Her deep love for God and her gratitude for the blessings in her life are a constant source of inspiration to us all.

At Legacy Ridge, we simply don’t know what we’d do without our BB. She is a true light in our community, and it is an honor to celebrate her this month — and every month.

Congratulations, BB!
