Thanksgiving Affogato

Affogato is often made with vanilla gelato, but if your grocery store doesn’t carry gelato, high-quality vanilla bean ice cream is a wonderful substitute. You can even go above-and-beyond and make homemade vanilla bean ice cream or experiment with other flavors such as chocolate, caramel, or chocolate chip gelato or ice cream.
Affogato isn’t complete without being generously drowned in hot espresso. If you don’t have an espresso machine at home, you can still achieve a similar effect by brewing an extra-strong, concentrated cup of coffee. Just make sure the coffee is freshly made and piping hot!
Ingredients
Vanilla ice cream or similar
Coffee or espresso
Directions
Serve your ice cream in a dish and warm some espresso to pour over.
Enjoy!

Australian Joy

Alexa, play Down Under, by Men at work.

Released in 1981, “Down Under” quickly became a defining song of Australian identity. With its catchy flute riff and witty lyrics, it celebrates the country’s laid-back spirit, humor, and pride. More than a global hit, it remains an unofficial anthem—an upbeat tribute to Australia’s culture, people, and sense of adventure.

Legacy Literacy Corner

It brings the community pride to showcase a resident family member and volunteer, Janee. She is the daughter of Annetta (Sissy) Walters. With every visit she brings her colorful personality and ideas to enrich the experience of her mom but also the residents as a whole.

Our Legacy Literacy corner spotlights Janee’s new series The Bever Family, family books of a family that go through curveballs and life bumps with a grandma with Dementia. It is a colorful look of her families shared experiences in a captivating way.

Check out the website QR Code and enjoy the series for you and the family.

Welcome to Australia
Around the World with Atlas

Australia, the world’s largest island and smallest continent, is a land of striking contrasts—from its vast deserts and tropical rainforests to its bustling coastal cities. Indigenous Australians have lived on the continent for over 60,000 years, developing rich spiritual traditions and deep connections to the land. Their art, music, and stories remain an essential part of the nation’s cultural identity today.

European settlement began in 1788 with the arrival of the First Fleet from Britain, marking the start of Australia’s colonial era. British influence shaped the nation’s language, institutions, and political systems, though this period also brought immense hardship to Indigenous communities. Over time, Australia evolved from a collection of colonies into a unified federation in 1901, forging its own democratic and multicultural identity.

Modern Australia is known for its relaxed lifestyle, love of the outdoors, and vibrant cultural mix. From iconic landmarks like the Sydney Opera House and Uluru to its world-class art, music, and sport, the country reflects both its ancient heritage and modern dynamism—a place where tradition and innovation coexist under the southern sun.

Not Just Clothes, But Bedding Too!

It’s that time of season again when the days are mild but morning and evenings have a fall chill. With that, it is important to switch out clothing to sweaters and jackets and ensure all are warm. Some do miss that clothing isn’t the only thing that needs changing. That’s right, bedding too should be taken into consideration. Blankets and comforters for comfortable nights.
*Due note that all bedding at the community isn’t complete without a mattress cover. According to AutumnViewGardens, “Mattress covers are important for seniors primarily for protection against incontinence, maintaining hygiene, and prolonging the life of the mattress. They create a waterproof barrier to protect against spills and moisture from accidents, which is especially helpful for seniors with incontinence. They also provide a barrier against allergens, dust mites, sweat, and skin cells, helping to maintain a cleaner and healthier sleep environment. Additionally, a cover can protect the mattress from stains and wear and tear, extending its lifespan and saving the cost of early replacement.”
Feel free to speak to Executive Director or Wellness Directors with any inquiries.

Church Services

We are so grateful to have a few churches take time and make our community the home base for services. So far we have few Sundays per month but would love to fill up each Sunday with inspirational time. This month North River Church of Christ (non denominational) has graced the community with such joy, encouragement, and Spiritual teaching.
It is noted that Church matters to seniors in assisted living because it provides a vital sense of community, combats isolation, and offers spiritual and emotional support during a significant life transition. Faith can provide comfort, peace of mind, and a framework for coping with challenges, while religious activities like worship, prayer, and social gatherings promote mental and physical well-being. For many, their faith community is a primary source of social support, fellowship, and a sense of purpose.
We welcome this sentiment in our community.

Resident of the Month

Joan Byerley

This month we salute our very own Joan Byerley. One of the kindest souls and warmest voice. Joan has been a resident of the community for just under a year. You can always count on Miss Joan to be punctual and ready to participate and even lend some advice. Some of her favorite activities to participate in are Bible Study, BINGO, and Left Right & Center. She is a fair and humble person.

You can tell she values family and friendships as some of her favorite pastimes are holidays and camping with family.
Her philosophy is to “walk in God’s way” hence her first thing she does when she wakes up is to say “thank God for another day!”

One of her proudest moments is becoming “Ms. Clairol”. Joan isn’t just a beautiful person on the outside but she is a treasure on the inside. A song that describes her is “Just As I Am” With that we can see why Joan is worth recognition and we celebrate her. Congratulations Joan!

Associate of the Month

Demetrius Brown

This month we recognize one of the communities seasoned staff, of 5 years, Demetrius Brown. Demetrius has been in the industry for 10 years and prides herself on knowing her residents. Families and residents alike comment on how well she works and engages with them.

Demetrius is a wife and mother and even in her personal life she embodies the qualities of caring, compassionate, supportive and thoughtful.

The driving force behind all she does is overcoming challenges, creating new processes and improving old ones.
Outside of the community you could find her doing some arts and crafts, cooking or baking. She comments if she had the opportunity to fulfill another role at the community for a day, it would be Lifestyles director or assistant.

We recognize her for stepping in when its needed and rising in all situations. Congratulations Demetrius.
