GREENVILLE, SC — At Oakview Park, history isn’t something you read about, it’s something you taste, wear, and laugh your way through. The Greenville assisted living and memory care community at 110 Hood Road has been turning back the clock each month as part of “Through the Decades with Atlas,” a systemwide programming campaign launched by operator Atlas Senior Living.
The concept is simple and the results have been anything but ordinary: each month, the activities team immerses residents in a different decade of American history through themed events, foods, fashions, and conversation. February brought the 1910s to life with vintage-inspired fashion showcases, tin-type style portrait sessions, and classic recipes that sparked stories residents hadn’t shared in years.
“Our residents become the experts in the room,” said Danyel Starr, Regional Sales Director for Oakview Park. “When you watch someone light up because they recognize a recipe their grandmother used to make, or see them strike a pose for a tin-type photo with a huge grin on their face, you realize this is exactly what meaningful programming looks like.”
Now the Edwardian era is giving way to something a little louder. This month, Oakview Park is roaring its way into the 1920s with jazz music, flapper-inspired fashion, and all the sparkle the Roaring Twenties were known for. The activities team is planning décor, themed treats, and programming that brings the spirit of the era to life in ways that resonate for both residents and their families.
