Viva México !!
Around the World with Atlas

A Land of Spirit, Color, and Eternal Stories, Mexico is more than a country—it’s a heartbeat, a song carried by the wind across deserts, jungles, mountains, and beautyful beaches. A place where ancient civilizations whisper through pyramids and murals, and modern life dances to the rhythm of a strong and unique cultural heritage.

The word “México” comes from the Náhuatl words “Metztli” (moon) and “xictli” (navel or belly button), meaning “the belly button of the moon.” The Mexicas pronounced it “Meshico.”

According to legend, the Mexica people were the last of the nomadic tribes to arrive in central Anáhuac (yep, that was the ancient name for the heartland of what’s now Mexico). They came from a mythical island called Aztlán—which is why they’re also called Aztecs. They were searching for a sign sent by their main god, Huitzilopochtli: an eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus, devouring a snake. That was the sacred place where they were to build their city.

And they did find it—right in the middle of a vast lake called Texcoco. Legend says they took refuge on that small patch of land in the lake and founded their settlement, Tenochtitlan, around 1325. By the time the Spanish arrived in 1519, they were stunned by the sight of a majestic, dream-like well-organized metropolis—Tenochtitlan—one of the largest cities in the world at that time.

Else London Innovation

Else London innovation aims to tackle the loss of autonomy experienced by people living with dementia due to cognitive decline. A less recognized, but equally important issue, concerns the physical and mental burden placed on caregivers. The product aims to guide people living with dementia through daily tasks of living by embedding routines to memory. They have designed this system to be discreet and adapt to each user’s environment and needs using location-based recognition and sensory cues.

Aging Gracefully

Aging with grace involves adapting to the natural changes of aging with acceptance, a positive outlook, and a focus on well-being and continued growth. It is about finding joy, and purpose in later life, maintaining social connections and practicing self-care. By maintaining physical, mental and emotional health and cognitive function can help one with aging. In essence, aging with grace is about embracing the journey, finding joy in the present, and continuing to grow and flourish throughout life.

Pet Therapy

Pets offer numerous benefits for seniors, including improved physical and mental health, reduced loneliness, and increased social interaction. Studies have shown that pers can lower blood pressure, boost immunity, and even help seniors cope with pain and stress. Generally, low-maintenance pets like cats or small dogs can be great companions for seniors. Cats are independent and can provide comfort without needing too much attention, while small dogs like toy breeds or older, calm dogs can offer companionship without requiring rigorous exercise.

Mr. Geri Patrick Weevil

When Kristie Carty, Sales Specialist for Atlas Senior Living, saw how much our community loved Weevil Way, she knew right away she wanted to be part of this program and give back to the community

Madison Heights and Kelley Place is the first specialty care community to focus on memory care in Enterprise, Alabama. Naturally, their weevil had to represent the individuals and families who suffer from Alzheimer’s and dementia daily.
Mr. Geri Patrick Weevil is dressed in a purple sports coat, a representation of the Alzheimer’s Association. His navy-blue slacks are the signature color for Atlas Senior living. His cul-de-sac hairstyle, glasses, and cane are a few common sights seen when visiting the beautiful people who reside in the community. It is a shared hope that Mr. Geri Patrick Weevil will inspire and encourage more people to educate themselves regarding Memory Care communities, and to know there is help right around the corner.
