Spiritual Well-being in Seniors

Spiritual Well Being

Spiritual well-being is an important part of a senior’s overall health and can help them feel a sense of comfort, meaning, and connection. It can also help them navigate life changes, accept aging, and strengthen relationships. Activities such as mediation, journaling, and religious services are a few activities than can help them maintain their spiritual well-being. Mediation can help seniors feel calm, remove and reduce stress, and improve their ability to absorb information. Journaling can help nourish a senior’s spirit while religious services can include worship, bible study, and sermons.

Alabama CARES

Choosing the right caregiver for our loved is very important and can be very stressful as well. The NFCSP, National Family Caregiver Support Program, provides grants to states and territories to fund various supports that help family and informal caregivers care for older adults in their homes for as long as possible. The Alabama Department of Senior Services offers The Alabama Cares Program, which provides support services to help families sustain efforts in caring for their loved one. The services provided by Alabama CARES program does not replace the role of family caregiver but enhance their ability to provide informal care for as long as appropriate. Caregivers have unique needs and preferences for the types of services they wish to receive.

Cognitive Health in Seniors

Keeping our Seniors mind active is very important. Here are some ways to help with cognitive health. Mental activities such as puzzles, card games, board games, and matching games are all great ways to help keep their mind active. Social activities such as music club, garden club and engaging in conversations are also great ways to keep their minds socially active. Regular physical activities such as walking, yoga, stretching, swimming and dancing can reduce cognitive decline. Other activities such as baking and cooking can stimulate happy feelings and remind them of the past. Listening to music or playing instruments are also great ways to keep their minds active. While all of these sound-like great ideas, it is also important that seniors maintain a healthy diet, get enough sleep and manage stress as much as possible.

Mr. Geri Patrick Weevil

When Kristie Carty, Sales Specialist for Atlas Senior Living, saw how much our community loved Weevil Way, she knew right away she wanted to be part of this program and give back to the community

Madison Heights and Kelley Place is the first specialty care community to focus on memory care in Enterprise, Alabama. Naturally, their weevil had to represent the individuals and families who suffer from Alzheimer’s and dementia daily.
Mr. Geri Patrick Weevil is dressed in a purple sports coat, a representation of the Alzheimer’s Association. His navy-blue slacks are the signature color for Atlas Senior living. His cul-de-sac hairstyle, glasses, and cane are a few common sights seen when visiting the beautiful people who reside in the community. It is a shared hope that Mr. Geri Patrick Weevil will inspire and encourage more people to educate themselves regarding Memory Care communities, and to know there is help right around the corner.
