Scottish Heart

Alexa, play "Stuck in the middle with you" by "Stealers Wheel"

“Stuck in the Middle with You” (1972) by Scottish band Stealers Wheel mixes playful folk-rock with satirical lyrics. Decades later, it gained cult status when Tarantino used it in Reservoir Dogs, forever tying its upbeat sound to a darkly iconic scene.

Celebrating Assisted Living Week

Ageless Adventure | National Assisted living Week

National Assisted Living Week is an annual event established by the National Center for Assisted Living in 1995 to celebrate and honor residents, caregivers, and the importance of assisted living communities. Assisted Living Week 2025 is held September 7 thru September 12 and the theme fior this year is “Ageless Adventure”. The week aims to highlight the positive impact of assisted living and encourage communities to host events that foster connections and celebrate the residents and staff. Communities celebrate by hosting events and activities to celebrate residents and engage the wider community. Members of public are always encouraged to visit or volunteer at assisted living communities to learn more. Sharing celebrations on social media with NALW is encouraged.

Welcome to Scotland
Around the World with Atlas

Scotland: The Land Beyond the Wall
When the Roman Empire pushed north into Britannia, it met fierce tribes the legions could never conquer. To mark the limit of their reach, the Romans built Hadrian’s Wall, and further north, the Antonine Wall — yet beyond lay the untamed lands we now call Scotland.

By the 8th century, Scotland began to take shape as a kingdom, often in conflict with its southern neighbor, England. Centuries of wars, heroes like William Wallace, and an enduring sense of independence defined its story. In 1707, Scotland formally united with England, creating Great Britain, which later grew into the United Kingdom alongside Ireland.

Still today, Scotland remains proudly distinct — with its Gaelic roots, tartans, castles, and legendary landscapes reminding the world of a culture that was never fully subdued.

Guide to Senior Health and Checkups

Guide to Senior Health and Checkups

Regular health screenings and checkups are vital for seniors to maintain their health, independence, an overall quality of life. These proactive measures allow for early detection and management of potential health issues, potentially preventing or delaying the onset of serious illnesses, improving treatment outcomes, and reducing healthcare costs. Screenings can identify diseases like cancer, heart disease, diabetes in their early stages, when they are often more treatable and manageable. Early detection allows for timely interventions, potentially preventing the disease from progressing to a more severe stage. Regular checkups can also help assess individual risk factors for future health problems and allow for preventative measures to be taken.

Managing existing conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and arthritis are very important as well. Healthcare providers can monitor the effectiveness of treatment plans, adjust medications and provide guidance on lifestyle modifications. This proactive approach can help seniors maintain their health and independence, preventing complications and hospitalizations.

The benefits of animals for seniors

Did you know that animals can be a beneficial source of stimulation and joy for individuals with dementia? As animal interactions can improve mood, improve mood, reduce agitation and spark memories. Animals can also trigger memories and conversations, particularly if the individual has had previous experiences with animals. Studies have shown that pet therapy is linked to improved cardiovascular health, including lower blood pressure and reduced risk of heart disease. Caring for a pet or animal can provide a sense of responsibility and routine, which can be particularly beneficial for seniors who may have retired or have fewer daily obligations.

Mr. Geri Patrick Weevil

When Kristie Carty, Sales Specialist for Atlas Senior Living, saw how much our community loved Weevil Way, she knew right away she wanted to be part of this program and give back to the community

Madison Heights and Kelley Place is the first specialty care community to focus on memory care in Enterprise, Alabama. Naturally, their weevil had to represent the individuals and families who suffer from Alzheimer’s and dementia daily.
Mr. Geri Patrick Weevil is dressed in a purple sports coat, a representation of the Alzheimer’s Association. His navy-blue slacks are the signature color for Atlas Senior living. His cul-de-sac hairstyle, glasses, and cane are a few common sights seen when visiting the beautiful people who reside in the community. It is a shared hope that Mr. Geri Patrick Weevil will inspire and encourage more people to educate themselves regarding Memory Care communities, and to know there is help right around the corner.
