Resident of the Month

Jennie Cook Resident of the Month

Jennie Cook

Our July resident of the month is Jennie Cook, who celebrated her 101st birthday last month! Jennie was born and raised in East Point Georgie. She remembers the Great Depression well for only being a young girl. Her family of 14 (including her parents) had to sell their house and move to the country. She says some of her first memories are from when she was only 4 years old, including having a talking parrot who would say “Oh, Polly, telephone!”. Jennie met her husband through their church. Her husband, Bill, was on the church baseball team. One game day when Bill caught the ball in the outfield, he looked up directly at her and winked at her. Jennie says at that moment her heart turned over and never did get back right again. Jennie has three kids, Sandra, Brenda, and Wayne. She also has 6 grandkids and 12 great grandkids. Some of her favorite pastimes include sewing and making jewelry. Her husband was in the navy, worked at a sawmill, and eventually went into seminary after much prayer. When Bill talked to his wife about this calling, she replied to him “Whatever the Lord has for you, I’ll be right behind you.” While Bill was in seminary school, Jennie worked the telephones for Sears. And true to her word, she was by his side while he worked in ministry for nearly 50 years. When asked what her secret to longevity is, Jennie replied “I have completely surrendered my life to the Lord. I was never satisfied unless I was thinking of someone I needed to help.” We are so thankful that Jennie is part of our legacy ridge family!
