Executive Director Corner
Happy New Year to all! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and will have a happy New Year. We are kicking off our New Year by celebrating with live piano music on Christmas Eve, champagne flutes, and talks of our New Year resolutions.
In 2024, keep an eye out for our new National Parks program! Each month we will highlight a different park and pair it with exciting activities. This month we are exploring the Great Smoky Mountains. We are also excited to launch our crochet club! As always, there are many entertaining events to look forward to.
I am also excited to announce that Kelsey Cornnell, our very own Lifestyles Director, has accepted an offer to become Senior Lifestyles Director. She will remain with us as Lifestyles Director for Legacy Ridge Peachtree but will now be using her talents to help other Lifestyles Directors and enhance their activities programming. Kelsey will be training new Lifestyles Directors as well as hosting the monthly Lifestyles Zoom meetings, along with one other Senior Lifestyle Director.
As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. My door is always open.
Resident of the Month
Lois Lysdahl
This is the smiling face of Lois Lysdahl, our January Resident of the Month! Lois was born and raised in the countryside of Park Rapids, Minnesota. The middle child of three children, Lois grew up on a farm with loving parents. As a kid she was surrounded by dogs, cats, chickens, and cows — and to this day she is an animal lover through and through. In fact, since moving in, Lois has gained a loyal sidekick by the name of Lilo. If you see our house pug sprinting down the halls, chances are she is on her way to see Lois. Everybody here knows Lilo loves Lois, and Lois loves Lilo. Some of Lois’ favorite childhood activities included dancing and swimming. She also loved cooking, often using ingredients from the garden she religiously tended to. It is a huge compliment to say that Lois loves our meals here at Legacy since she grew up using only the finest farm-fresh and garden-fresh ingredients! Lois has three children and two grandchildren. She loved raising her children and to this day she cherishes her family immensely. Lois also worked as a secretary and served in her church. She is truly passionate about helping other people. Her faith and belief in Jesus are apparent in everything she says and does. Lois loves to spend time in fellowship with her neighbors and always finds a way to lend a hand at every opportunity she gets. She enjoys the many activities we have that allow her to connect with other residents, especially the activities that include snacks. Lois’ best piece of advice is as follows: “Enjoy every minute, don’t ever take anything for granted.”. We love seeing Lois’ smiling face. Her kind heart has the ability to warm our entire building.

January Recipe Spotlight:
Buttermilk Pie Recipe
8 servings
Prep: 5 mins
Cook: 55 mins
Ingredients:
1 9″ pastry crust
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 1/4 cup sugar
3 Tbsp all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp salt
3 large eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 Tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp vanilla extract
Directions:
Beat butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl till creamy.
Add flour, salt, and eggs. Beat till smooth. Add buttermilk, lemon juice, and vanilla and blend well. (Mixture may appear curdled.)
Pour filling into a 9″ pie crust. I like to use a deep dish.
Place pie pan on a cookie sheet and place in an oven that has been preheated to 350°. Bake for 50-55 minutes or till lightly browned on top and mostly set.
Place pie on a cooling rack to cool. Serve at room temperature.
Associate of the Month
Rosemary Beard
Our January Employee of the Month is a person almost all of you will know. She leads the command center (the front desk) with efficient expertise and always with a smile. But that’s not all she does… in addition to her routine secretarial and administrative responsibilities like answering phones, managing the bus schedule, greeting guests, and emailing families, she also assists our Executive Director, Wellness Director, and Activities Director. If you don’t find her at the front desk, it means she’s probably passing out mail or activities calendars, relaying vital information to our care team, or out running errands for anyone who needs a hand. Truth be told, Rosemary Beard is a bit of a Jack of all Trades. If you have questions, problems, or concerns, chances are this wise woman will have the answer – and on the off chance that she does not, she will know whom to talk to in order to get one. We have the best concierge out there, no doubt about it.
Rosemary was born and raised in East Point, GA, and has continued to live in Georgia her entire life, only moving towns a time or two. She has two children and two grandchildren. Rosemary was the only child of a mother who ran three businesses and an army dad who eventually worked for the city of Atlanta as an engineer. That being said, Rosemary was primarily raised by one of her mother’s older sisters. As a young child at the ripe age of six, Rosemary got her first job dusting at the East Point Furniture company – she recalls that it was one of the only opportunities she could to spend time with her mother. In high school, Rosemary worked as a secretary for the school office, the counselors, the band, and was president of the Future Business Leaders. She graduated in 1968 and then attended Georgia State Secretarial School. Her first “official” job was working for the Dillard Paper Company. You may ask, well how did this wonderful woman stumble upon a career in senior living? Well, the answer to that is simple: happenstance (and divine intervention). Rosemary noticed a new apartment building going up, upon further investigation she learned that it was an assisted living facility. The director said, “Well, you might be a little young to live here, but do you want to work here?”. Rosemary worked at that facility for 14 years, before following Nathalie White, over here to Legacy Ridge at Peachtree. We feel beyond blessed to have Rosemary as part of our team. She makes a positive difference in the lives of both residents and staff every day. Please join us in congratulating her.
