Peachtree City Senior to Celebrate 101st Birthday

“I was not satisfied unless I thought of someone I needed to help”

PEACHTREE CITY, GA—Legacy Ridge at Peachtree, a local senior living community, is celebrating a significant milestone on June 14: the 101st birthday of Jennie Cook, a treasured resident.

You are invited to the party! Come to Legacy Ridge at Peachtree at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, June 21 at 1967 GA-54 West, Peachtree City, GA 30269.

Jennie, a native of East Point, Georgia, has lived through a century of history, witnessing the hardships of the Great Depression as a young girl. Her family of 14 sold their house and moved to the country. She says some of her more joyful memories are from when she was four years old of her talking parrot, Polly, who would say, “Oh, Polly, telephone!”

Love found Jennie on the church baseball field with her late husband, Bill. Jennie’s heart knew it had found its match when he caught a ball and winked in her direction. “That moment, my heart turned over and never did get back right again,” she shares with a smile. Together, they raised three children – Sandra, Brenda, and Wayne – and built a life filled with family, faith, and service.

Bill’s diverse career, which included service in the Navy, work at a sawmill, and eventually, a calling to ministry, was consistently supported by Jennie. She stated to her husband, “Whatever the Lord has for you, I’ll be right behind you.” True to her word, Jennie worked as a telephone operator for Sears during Bill’s studies and stood beside him for nearly 50 years of ministry.

When asked about her secret to a long and fulfilling life, Jennie offers a simple yet profound answer: “I have completely surrendered my life to the Lord. I was never satisfied unless I was thinking of someone I needed to help.”

Jennie has touched many lives as a devoted mother of three, grandmother of six, and great-grandmother of 12. Her sewing and jewelry-making hobbies have created cherished keepsakes for her family and friends, reflecting her love and creativity.

Jennie attributes her long life to her devotion to the Lord and a constant desire to help others. Her unwavering faith and selfless spirit continue to inspire everyone at Legacy Ridge at Peachtree.

“We are so thankful that Jennie is part of our Legacy Ridge at Peachtree family,” said LeeAnne Ryan, Sales and Marketing Director. “Her stories, wisdom, and kindness enrich our community every day. Celebrating her 101st birthday is going to be a truly special event for all of us.”

The birthday celebration will include a special presentation of the certificates Jennie received on her 100th birthday, heartfelt tributes from her family and friends, and a look back at her incredible life. The event will highlight Jennie’s significant contributions to her family, friends, and the community. The impact of Jennie’s life and the joy of her birthday will continue to resonate within Legacy Ridge at Peachtree.
