Birthday Month Celebration Oct 30th

Royal Arms of Germany

The coat of arms of Germany, also known as the Bundeswappen, displays a black eagle with a red beak, a red tongue and red feet on a golden field, which is blazoned:

Or, an eagle displayed sable beaked langued and membered gules.

Community of Believers

Community of Believers

Church fellowship provides seniors with vital community to combat loneliness and isolation, offers spiritual and emotional support, a sense of purpose and meaning, opportunities for continued spiritual growth and to serve others, and practical support for daily challenges. Research indicates a connection between church-based support and improved health and wellness, and a greater sense of purpose is linked to a longer lifespan for seniors.

German Music Legacy

Alexa, play Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 4, BWV 1049, Allegro

This concerto is full of life and beauty, with the flute, violin, and harpsichord leading the orchestra in joyful dialogue. At the time, Bach often directed the ensemble from the harpsichord, but he was also one of the most skilled violinists of his era. You can easily imagine him conducting from the harpsichord with a violin in hand—an image that perfectly captures the spirit of this vibrant masterpiece.

Pen Pals Live On!

Seniors benefit from pen pal relationships by experiencing reduced loneliness, improved mental health, and increased cognitive stimulation from writing and communicating. Programs connect seniors with others, including students and people worldwide, through traditional or digital letters, fostering genuine connections, new perspectives, and physical activity for fine motor skills.

Our very own Ambassador Larry takes the time to hand write birthday cards, welcome cards, and “just because” notes of encouragement and hand delivers them to staff and residents.

Welcome to Germany
Around the World with Atlas

Germany’s history stretches back to ancient tribes such as the Saxons, Franks, and Goths, whose resilience left a mark on Europe’s foundations. From the crowning of Charlemagne in 800 AD to the rise of the Holy Roman Empire under Otto I, the medieval period saw the growth of a diverse cultural and political landscape. Moments of transformation, like Martin Luther’s Protestant Reformation, sparked new ideas that influenced the world far beyond Germany’s borders.

In the centuries that followed, the rise of Prussia and the eventual German unification in 1871 brought together a patchwork of regions into a modern and power nation.

Though the 20th century was marked by hardship and division, after two awful wars, Germany was in ruin and divided by a wall, years of division goes by until the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the re-unification of Germany opened the path to a new chapter. Today, Germany stands as a symbol of resilience and renewal—celebrated for its music, philosophy, literature, and innovations, as well as its role as a cultural and economic leader in Europe.

Did Someone Say Uno?

Did someone say UNO?

Playing UNO provides seniors with important benefits, including mental stimulation by challenging memory and attention, social engagement through group interaction to reduce isolation, and emotional well-being from enjoyment, laughter, and accomplishment. It also offers fine motor skill development and serves as a fun, accessible cognitive exercise for varying abilities. Its always a treat playing in our community!

Breathing & Balance with Noel Plaugher

Breathing and Balance with Noel Plaugher

Breathing exercises can improve balance in seniors by synchronizing breath with movements, promoting relaxation, and strengthening the diaphragm. Techniques like diaphragmatic breathing and box breathing are effective. To improve balance, incorporate these exercises with gentle stretches, mindful movement, and activities like Tai Chi.

We have the honor of having Noel Plaugher. He is an author and began studying martial arts in 1990 after being the victim of violent crime. After studying Shou Shu Kung Fu and achieving his second degree black belt, he began studying internal martial arts. Noel studied Xing Yi Chuan and achieved his teaching certificate.

He is at our community twice a month and its always a great result for staff and residents alike.

Halloween Special

Halloween

Halloween’s roots go back to the Celtic festival of Samhain, marking the end of harvest and the start of winter. Germanic tribes carried these traditions—bonfires and beliefs about roaming spirits—into Europe, where they blended with local customs to become today’s Halloween.

Resident of the Month

Sachiko "Amy" Simons

Sachiko affectionately known in the community as “Amy” is our resident of the month. She is very soft spoken and from time to time you can hear stories of her growing up in Japan, her years of professional dancing, and being a well renowned flower arranger. She holds a certification in a type of flower arranging called Ikebana that usually takes almost ten years to complete. Her talent led her to arranging at the Sterling Estates.

She held the job of secretary at the Misawa Air Force Base where she met her husband and they were married for nearly 30 years. Her and her husband were amazing ballroom dancers and danced for weddings and special occasions. Amy has two daughters and 17-year-old twin grandchildren
Here at the community, Amy is always one who observes before she jumps into an activity and is always willing to share a smile with those who are around her. More recently we have seen Amy joining our morning balance and breathing classes with precision as well as stand for a dance to a good song.
Her heart and energy keep all who know her filled with joy. We recognize her and say congratulations Amy!

Associate of the Month

Nancy J Koech

Nancy has been part of Legacy Ridge community for close to six months as a Med Tech. She is quiet in demeanor but a ball of energy with residents. She shows care and compassion to the residents and always willing to go the extra mile. She is dependable and that is commented by both residents and staff alike.

Nancy has been in the industry for a year. She remarks that seeing the residents smile and feel cared for is what drives her. She says that three words to describe her day to day are ‘routine, vigilant, and compassion.’
One thing that makes her feel most proud is knowing that families and residents grow trust in her and how she cares for their loved one.

If Nancy could have one job for just a day at the community, she said it would be a day in activities to have fun all day with the residents. This is surely no surprise as she is always participating!
We are happy to recognize Nancy’s drive and care and congratulate her as Associate of the Month!
