Viva México

Alexa play "Huapango" from "Jose Pablo Moncayo"

There’s no Mexican who can listen this song without feel an immense joy and pride for México, even if you’re not Mexican it’s impossible not feel shivers listening.

Composed in 1941, Huapango is a brilliant orchestral piece that captures the soul of Mexican folk music, especially the vibrant spirit of the Huasteca region. Moncayo, a classically trained composer and conductor, based the work on the traditional sones huastecos

Viva México !!
Around the World with Atlas

A Land of Spirit, Color, and Eternal Stories, Mexico is more than a country—it’s a heartbeat, a song carried by the wind across deserts, jungles, mountains, and beautyful beaches. A place where ancient civilizations whisper through pyramids and murals, and modern life dances to the rhythm of a strong and unique cultural heritage.

The word “México” comes from the Náhuatl words “Metztli” (moon) and “xictli” (navel or belly button), meaning “the belly button of the moon.” The Mexicas pronounced it “Meshico.”

According to legend, the Mexica people were the last of the nomadic tribes to arrive in central Anáhuac (yep, that was the ancient name for the heartland of what’s now Mexico). They came from a mythical island called Aztlán—which is why they’re also called Aztecs. They were searching for a sign sent by their main god, Huitzilopochtli: an eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus, devouring a snake. That was the sacred place where they were to build their city.

And they did find it—right in the middle of a vast lake called Texcoco. Legend says they took refuge on that small patch of land in the lake and founded their settlement, Tenochtitlan, around 1325. By the time the Spanish arrived in 1519, they were stunned by the sight of a majestic, dream-like well-organized metropolis—Tenochtitlan—one of the largest cities in the world at that time.

Modern representation of the legendary Tenochtitlan in 1519 (now Mexico City). Some estimates suggest the city had around 250,000 inhabitants at the time. During major celebrations linked to their gods, it could hold up to half a million people.

Teotihuacan by 1519, when the Mexica rule. This ancient city and ceremonial center had already been abandoned for nearly a millennium, likely around 550 CE.

Summer Time Pals

We are looking to start a few clubs this summer to get our residents outside and in the community. Have ideas for trips? Want to facilitate a Garden Club? Book Club? Grilling Club? Let’s do it.

We are also looking for ministers or community that feel led to the community for Sunday Services. We have mid week service and would love to add more extended family.

PLEASE contact our Lifestyle Director Devon Gunn with any thoughts or interest in volunteering. Email: DGunn@LegacyRidgeMarietta.com or Call or Text 508-521-9180

Resident of the Month

Bobbie Drury

Bobbie has been part of the Legacy Ridge Community since Spring 2023.
She was born in Illinois and lived in South Dakota for many years. In her early years she held jobs as Medical Tech and even coined number one realtor in her town of South Dakota. It goes without saying Bobbie brings joy and light. She is full of care and love and it’s easy to love the light she brings to the community. She has been married for close to 67 years to her love, Larry.

You can find Bobbie around the community walking her fur baby Zorro, reading one of her many chapter book thrillers, playing BINGO with her favorite yellow chips, or shopping with her BINGO bucks at the Community store.

We are fortunate to have such a ray of sunshine in our community and this month we recognize her as resident of the month. Congratulations Bobbie!
