While the Inca Empire is the most renowned civilization of Peru, it was preceded by a rich array of cultures that laid the groundwork for its eventual rise

Associate of the Month

Mila Nomura

Mila Nomura is our June Employee of the month. Mila has been with Legacy Ridge Marietta for about three years. In her time Mila has always shown a smile and sincerity in all she does. Her favorite part about coming to work is making the resident smile.
Her drive is internal. She strives to make her parents, who have since passed on, proud of her. She was her parents’ caregiver and that is why we see Mila work with heart.
If she could describe her day at work in three words it would be honest, sincere and working with heart.
If Mila could be in another department for a day here at our community, she said she would remain in care giving because she loves to serve. It is her daily achievements she feels proudest of.

When asked, residents have spoken so highly of her and attention to detail and working with a smile. For this reason, we are happy to have her as our employee of the month. Congratulations Mila!

Sounds of Peru

Alexa play "La Malagueña" from "Juan Diego Flórez"

La Malagueña Salerosa is one of Mexico’s most iconic traditional songs, a vibrant example of the huapango style. In his album Bésame Mucho (2018), Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez offers a powerful and moving rendition, blending technical brilliance and deep emotion, proving why he is considered a national treasure of Peru.

Sunscreen and Seniors!

Proper sun protection starts with timing: the hours between 10 AM and 4 PM are typically the most UV-intense, so plan outside adventures for early morning or late afternoon. When you do go outside, seek shade from the direct sunlight and wear sun-safe clothing, including a long-sleeved shirt and long pants made of densely woven materials, a hat with a wide brim and UV-blocking sunglasses. Use an SPF 30 or higher broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 50+, water-resistant sunscreen for extended or intense outdoor exposure such as on the golf course) and reapply at least every two hours or immediately after swimming or heavy sweating.
Additional Sun Protection Measures:
Hats: Wide-brimmed hats can provide significant protection to the face, neck, and ears.
Sunglasses: Sunglasses with UV protection can help protect the eyes from sun damage.
Protective Clothing: Long sleeves, pants, and other protective clothing can shield skin from the sun’s rays.

Welcome to Peru

Land of Ancient Echoes and Living Wonders
Peru is a place where time weaves a magnificent tapestry of past and present. From the dizzying heights of the Andes to the depths of the Amazon rainforest, Peru is a country of contrasts—mystical, colorful, and vibrantly alive. It’s home to ancient civilizations, awe-inspiring landscapes, and cultural traditions that still pulse with life today.

Whether you’re drawn by the lost city of Machu Picchu, the flavors of ceviche, or the haunting sound of Andean flutes, Peru invites you to explore a land where legends walk beside everyday life.

🦙 Amazing Facts about Peru
Machu Picchu Is One of the New Seven Wonders of the World
Built in the 15th century by the Incas and rediscovered in 1911, this mountaintop citadel is Peru’s most iconic site—and a breathtaking symbol of human ingenuity.

Speak 2 Technology

“The use of Speak 2 allows me to know who is entering my parents room and seeing the needs they have. I love being able to see this information right on my phone using the Speak 2 app. We are pleased to see this as a communication tool to what activities they are joining as well when they don’t recall the parts of their day.
Look forward to see this technology be used in a larger scale in the future.” -Memory Care Family

National Gardening Week 6/1-6/7 : Senior Gardening

Enhances Physical Activity
You may not automatically classify gardening as exercise. Although the physical movements performed in gardening may not be as intense as other exercises, gardening still requires a variety of movements. These include bending, lifting, digging, and reaching, which seniors may otherwise not engage in on a daily/weekly basis. These actions provide an excellent workout for muscles, joints, and bones, helping to improve overall strength and flexibility, especially in seniors who may not be able to partake in more strenuous exercise. Gardening regularly can also help seniors manage their weight and cardiovascular health, helping them avoid other health conditions. By spending time tending to plants and maintaining the garden, seniors can incorporate a gentle form of exercise into their daily routine—and one that is enjoyable and rewarding!
Improves Balance and Coordination
Gardening requires one to regularly reach, bend, and squat in order to tend to their plants. Doing these movements on a regular basis helps seniors improve their balance and coordination, as they must navigate bumpy soil, lift pots and planters, and groom plants. The practice in balance and coordination that they gain when gardening may help these skills transfer into their day-to-day functions, decreasing the risk of falls.

Resident of the Month

Jack Halseth

Jack has been with us here at Legacy Ridge Marietta for a little less than a year and surely part of the family. He and his wife have been a great addition to the community. Born in Minneapolis and a US Veteran, Jack and his family have lived on the east and west coast. He always takes pride having been in the Army Special Intelligence division.
We can find Jack in the activity room dominating the volley balloon activity or exercise. Jack speaks often about the sports he plays and being a big fan of various teams.
We can all agree his smile can light up any room and for that reason we highlight our very own Jack. Congratulations!
