Associate of the Month

Akeisha Patterson

We would like to highlight Akeisha for this month. Akeisha is a spark of personality and joy when she is in the community. She is always involved and takes the lead as a Medical Technician. She brings positive and high energy to the residents and staff. You can find her building connections and relationships and conversing with anyone she encounters.
Akeisha has been in this industry for 10 years and has been at Legacy for 6 months. Her future goals are to continue in the field and be a registered nurse. Being able to give her all in her current role as well as schooling is one of her proudest achievements. She is driven and motivated by her children and the notion of someone in need that she can help.
If she were to describe herself, she would say she is “always busy, a true leader, and laser focused on all things that come her way.”
It is an honor to recognize our Associate of the month Akeisha.
Congratulations!!

Greek Heritage

Alexa play "Zorba’s Dance" from "Mikis Theodorakis"

The Song: Zorba’s Dance by Mikis Theodorakis (1964) became an iconic Greek melody, famous worldwide.
The Dance: The sirtaki dance, created for the film, becoming a symbol of Greek culture.
The Movie: Zorba the Greek (1964), starring Anthony Quinn, was based on a very famous greek novel and filmed in Crete, won three Oscars and was nominated for seven.

Greek Architecture Facts

The Greeks certainly had a preference for marble, at least for their public buildings. Initially, though, wood would have been used for not only such basic architectural elements as columns but the entire buildings themselves. Early 8th century BCE temples were so constructed and had thatch roofs. From the late 7th century BCE, temples, in particular, slowly began to be converted into more durable stone edifices; some even had a mix of the two materials. Some scholars have argued that certain decorative features of stone column capitals and elements of the entablature evolved from the skills of the carpenter displayed in more ancient, wooden architectural elements.

The stone of choice was either limestone protected by a layer of marble dust stucco or even better, pure white marble. Also, carved stone was often polished with chamois to provide resistance to water and give a bright finish. The best marble came from Naxos, Paros, and Mt. Pentelicon near Athens. Greek Heritage
Around the World with Atlas

Greece, the cradle of Western civilization, is a land where ancient history, breathtaking landscapes, and vibrant culture come together. From the awe-inspiring ruins of the Acropolis of Athens, where the Parthenon stands as a symbol of classical Greece, to the mystical sanctuary of Delphi, once considered the center of the world in ancient times, Greece is rich in heritage and mystical past.

The whitewashed cliffs of Santorini showcase Mediterranean charm. Whether exploring ancient ruins, sun-drenched islands, or dramatic landscapes, Greece captivates with its timeless beauty and profound legacy.

Movement Matters

You don’t need a great memory to enjoy life. Every day, there are countless opportunities for purpose and pleasure. For individuals with dementia, maintaining a good quality of life is essential—but without the support of families and caregivers, achieving this can be challenging. Thoughtfully planned activities can make a significant difference.

Ideally, activities should:

  • Compensate for lost abilities

  • Promote self-esteem

  • Maintain residual skills without requiring new learning

  • Provide opportunities for enjoyment, pleasure, and social contact

  • Be sensitive to the person’s cultural background

Additionally, incorporating daily chair exercises can help reduce the risk of falls. These movements improve blood flow, keep joints active and lubricated, and strengthen muscles.

At Legacy Ridge Marietta, we remain committed to staying active and engaged!

Senior Wellness Corner

Senior Wellness Corner

Whole Body Wellness is the active process of looking beyond ourselves to seek purpose and meaning in life. Many find their route to spirituality through religion, others through meditation, a connection to nature, or a strict code of ethics and altruism.

It makes choices easier. A prescribed code of behaviors can simplify the decision process. You know what you believe is right, and you can respond accordingly.
It offers consistency and grounds us during times of change. Focusing on a bigger picture and looking for a deeper understanding helps us see beyond temporary uncertainty.
It helps ease suffering. Believing in a higher power offers meaning and solace during painful times. It also often provides methods — like prayer or ritual — to help us cope with loss and confusion.
It creates resilience. After your practice has helped you through hard times, you’re more confident that it will again. You become more serene in the face of difficulty.
Spiritual wellness for seniors means finding and cultivating emotional tools to redefine what gives life meaning after you’ve retired, the kids are grown, and your day-to-day activities are very different from what they used to be. However you practice spirituality, there are some universal habits to cultivate a stronger sense of self and a more positive outlook when dealing with change.

Ancient Greeks

Pythagoras ( around 570 – 495 BC) was more than just a mathematician; he was a philosopher, mystic, and the founder of a secretive brotherhood that combined mathematics with spirituality. During his lifetime, he was considered almost a demi-god, a man who had mastered body, mind, and soul. His influence extended beyond mathematics—his teachings formed a strict, almost religious society that studied numbers, music, and philosophy.

Beyond numbers, Pythagoras made key discoveries in music theory, realizing that harmonious sounds are based on simple numerical ratios. His fascination with mathematics led him to view the world as a structured, mathematical entity. Some of the most beautiful words and concepts are linked to him:
Mathematics, Philosophy, Cosmos, and Harmony.
