Exercising in the New Year
A recent Swedish study found that physical activity was the number one contributor to longevity, adding extra years to your life—even if you don’t start exercising until your senior years. But getting active is not just about adding years to your life, it’s about adding life to your years.
Getting moving can help boost your energy, maintain your independence, protect your heart, and manage symptoms of illness or pain as well as your weight. Regular exercise is also good for your mind, mood, and memory. It’s never too late to find simple, enjoyable ways to become more active, improve your mood and outlook, and reap all of the physical and mental health benefits of exercise.
If you’ve never exercised before, you may not know where to begin, luckily we offer exercise programming 4 times a week as well as chair volleyball here at the Goldton. Check you activity calendar for days and times. It’s never to late to participate in a healthy lifestyle!
BRAZIL
Around the World with Atlas
Brazil, the largest country in South America, is known for its vibrant culture, rich history, and stunning natural beauty. Home to the Amazon Rainforest and Christ the Redeemer statue, it offers breathtaking landscapes and iconic landmarks. With diverse influences, lively music, samba, Carnival, and soccer, Brazil is a global symbol of celebration and passion.
Around the World with Atlas
This month in our around the world with Atlas we will be exploring the country of Brazil. The history of Brazil begins with the indigenous people in Brazil. The Portuguese arrived to the land that would become Brazil on April 22, 1500, commanded by Pedro Álvares Cabral, an explorer on his way to India under the sponsorship of the Kingdom of Portugal and the support of the Catholic Church. On September 7, 1822, prince regent Pedro de Alcântara declared Brazil’s independence from Portugal and so the Kingdom of Brazil became the Empire of Brazil. The country became a dictatorial republic in 1889 following a military coup d’état. An authoritarian military junta came to power in 1964 and ruled until 1985, after which civilian governance and democracy resumed. Brazil is a democratic federal republic.
During this month we will enrich ourselves in the cultures of this beautiful country. From learning about the Amazon rainforest to sampling the foods, listening to the music and exploring all there is to know about Brazil. Please check the activity calendar for special events highlighted in grey related to this activity series.
What's your resolution?
It is often at the beginning of the year many people create goals for themselves. What the New Year resolution tradition offers is simply an opportunity for a reset — an intention to rebalance what has gotten out of balance and to give yourself the opportunity to achieve something you might have previously given up on. Start off 2025 by resolving to participate in more of the many activities offered here at the Goldton at St. Petersburg!
