Thanksgiving at the Goldton

Thanksgiving is one of the most heartwarming times of the year, a day to gather, reflect, and give thanks for the many blessings in our lives. At The Goldton, we celebrate this cherished holiday surrounded by friends who have become like family. The community comes alive with the scent of roasted turkey, savory stuffing, and freshly baked pies as residents and team members share in the joy of the season.

Our celebration is more than just a meal; it’s a time to connect and reminisce. Residents enjoy sharing their favorite Thanksgiving memories, from family recipes passed down through generations to stories of holiday traditions from years past. Together, we give thanks for good health, friendship, and the moments that make life meaningful.

As we gather around the table this year, our hearts are full of gratitude — for our wonderful residents, caring staff, and supportive families who make The Goldton such a warm and welcoming home. Thanksgiving reminds us that no matter where we are, the spirit of togetherness and appreciation is what truly makes the holiday special. Our family Thanksgiving Dinner will be Tuesday November 18, at 5pm. Please make sure your RSVP is in.

Australian Joy

Alexa, play Down Under, by Men at work.

Released in 1981, “Down Under” quickly became a defining song of Australian identity. With its catchy flute riff and witty lyrics, it celebrates the country’s laid-back spirit, humor, and pride. More than a global hit, it remains an unofficial anthem—an upbeat tribute to Australia’s culture, people, and sense of adventure.

Sit back, relax, and join us in our Around the World with Atlas adventure as we transport you to the sun-kissed land Down Under, Australia. This vast and vibrant country offers a rich tapestry of landscapes, culture, and wildlife, perfect for a virtual escape without ever leaving your chair.

Begin in Sydney, where the iconic Opera House and Harbour Bridge sparkle against the blue waters. Imagine a gentle cruise through the harbor, the sun warming your face as seagulls wheel overhead. Next, journey to the Outback, where the fiery red sands of Uluru glow at sunset, casting a quiet, spiritual hush over the land.

Travel along the Great Ocean Road, marveling at dramatic cliffs and the Twelve Apostles rock formations rising from the sea. Picture yourself sipping a cup of tea while overlooking these breathtaking views.
Australia’s wildlife is equally unforgettable, koalas nestled in eucalyptus trees, kangaroos hopping across open fields, and colorful parrots fluttering through tropical rainforests.

Finally, visit the Great Barrier Reef, the world’s largest coral reef system, teeming with vibrant marine life. Even virtually, its beauty is awe-inspiring.
Whether reminiscing on past travels or dreaming of new ones, Australia’s natural wonders and warm spirit make it a perfect destination for armchair travelers seeking a peaceful, enriching escape.

Welcome to Australia
Around the World with Atlas

Australia, the world’s largest island and smallest continent, is a land of striking contrasts—from its vast deserts and tropical rainforests to its bustling coastal cities. Indigenous Australians have lived on the continent for over 60,000 years, developing rich spiritual traditions and deep connections to the land. Their art, music, and stories remain an essential part of the nation’s cultural identity today.

European settlement began in 1788 with the arrival of the First Fleet from Britain, marking the start of Australia’s colonial era. British influence shaped the nation’s language, institutions, and political systems, though this period also brought immense hardship to Indigenous communities. Over time, Australia evolved from a collection of colonies into a unified federation in 1901, forging its own democratic and multicultural identity.

Modern Australia is known for its relaxed lifestyle, love of the outdoors, and vibrant cultural mix. From iconic landmarks like the Sydney Opera House and Uluru to its world-class art, music, and sport, the country reflects both its ancient heritage and modern dynamism—a place where tradition and innovation coexist under the southern sun.

Seniors and Our Furry Friends

Animals have a wonderful way of bringing joy and comfort to our lives, especially for seniors. Whether it’s the soft purr of a cat, the wagging tail of a friendly dog, or a visit from a therapy animal, these moments create smiles and lift spirits throughout the day.
Studies show that time spent with animals can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and even improve overall well-being. For many older adults, animals also provide a sense of purpose, encouraging gentle activity, conversation, and connection.
Here at our community, pet visits are always a highlight. Residents light up as they share memories of their own pets and enjoy the warmth that only an animal’s unconditional love can bring. Whether furry, feathered, or four-legged, animals remind us of the simple joys in life and the comfort of companionship.

Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude, reflection, and togetherness. Rooted in early harvest feasts shared between settlers and Native Americans, it has grown into a cherished American tradition.

To give thanks for all blessings in life

If you were born between November 1–21, your astrological sign is Scorpio. Scorpios are powerful investigators who keep up on the comings and goings of their peers, take control, and lead the way to positive success.
Those born between November 22–30 are Archers of Sagittarius. Archers are exciting and independent. Their positive attitudes, great sense of humor, and kind hearts make them good friends. But get ready for an earful—Archers often also speak their minds.

Resident of the Month

Lynda Simmerly

We’re thrilled to celebrate Miss Lynda Simmerly as our Resident of the Month! Lynda grew up in beautiful Lakewood, Ohio, where she built a life centered around family, creativity, and care for others. She spent 35 wonderful years as a kindergarten teacher, helping to shape young minds and inspire a love of learning in her students.
Lynda proudly raised her family and continues to share her warmth and kindness with everyone she meets. In her younger years, she enjoyed dancing, roller skating, and expressing herself through art, passions that still shine through in her cheerful personality.
These days, Lynda finds joy in birdwatching and spending time around animals. Her gentle nature and positive spirit make her a delight to have in our community. We’re so grateful for the joy, laughter, and energy she brings to our activities and to everyone around her.

Associate of the Month

Jeni Runkle

We don’t typically award our Associate of the Month to a member of our management team, but this month we’re making an exception for someone who has truly gone above and beyond — Jeni, our Business Office Manager!
Over the past several months, Jeni has stepped up in a huge way, taking on extra responsibilities while continuing to excel in her own role. In addition to serving as our Business Office Manager, she has also taken on a regional role as Medicaid Specialist. Here in our community, Jeni has become our go-to person in the Dietary Department, helping with menu planning, placing food orders, and maintaining staff schedules.
Her hard work, flexibility, and commitment have made a tremendous impact on our community. Thank you, Jeni, for all that you do — your dedication does not go unnoticed!
