November Micro Stories

-You seem to be one of those who idealize even your lunch soup.
-I don’t like soup, but I would gladly take it with good company
-You see what I mean
– Do I idealize the soup or the company? -Both because both can be lousy
– And who said that lousy can’t be fun? -You see what I’m saying.
She wasn’t very good at finding “here and now” but she sounded hopeful that this was the place where she would finally find her home.
The cross keeps disappearing from the calendar, and yet the clock hands seem to turn faster and faster. There they go again, completing one more lap on this infinite Sunday.
I saw us coming back from the park with a dog or two. With ear-to-ear smiles and the latest Blink 182 song. I closed my eyes to protect myself from the sun. That was you for sure, but the girl wasn’t me.

Benefits of Arts & Crafts

The positive impact that engaging in creative activities like art and craft may have on a person’s mental health is likely the single most significant advantage that can be reaped from these pursuits. Concentration and attention are two qualities that will help you succeed at arts and crafts.
This helps seniors keep their minds sharp by providing mental stimulation. The creative process also aids in warding off negative emotions like stress, isolation, and melancholy.
Making art and crafts allows seniors to express their individuality and creativity, which is a major benefit. Engaging in such pursuits not only promotes creative thinking but also improves mental well-being.
Artistic pursuits not only benefit seniors’ mental health but also protect them from cognitive decline and diseases like Alzheimer’s and dementia. Stress management is a common issue for the elderly, and it can have similar effects as depression or anxiety. However, by engaging in creative activities on a regular basis, they can take their minds off of their troubles.
Therefore, senior citizens can benefit from engaging in creative activities like painting and crafts, which can serve as an excellent means of relieving stress. The biggest benefit, though, is the boost in self-assurance and self-respect that they experience as a result.
Resident of the Month
Mrs. Mamie Talley
Our November resident of the month is Mrs. Mamie Talley! We are so happy that she is a part of our Oakview Park family.
She enjoys all the activities that go on daily. Some of her favorites are exercise in the morning, crafts once a week, and she enjoys all of the tasteful Tuesday and Thursday cooking demos that happen monthly. When Mamie is not attending activities, she is hanging out with the ladies talking and reminiscing about the good ol’ days.

Spiritual Well-Being

My parents moved to Oakview Park in [date removed]. Since that time they have made friends, enjoyed multiple activities, church services and socials.
The environment is welcoming and very clean. My parents also have enjoyed the meals that are prepared and served by the friendly staff.
Most importantly they are in a safe and loving environment. The staff members that assist my parents seem to genuinely
care about them and treat them with dignity and respect.
The on-site Physical Therapy is also a great benefit. Moving my parents from their home was a difficult decision, but the staff members have made the transition much easier.
The directors and coordinators in their specific roles also have impacted my parents in a positive way! I am so thankful for the “Peace of Mind” Oakview Park and their kind and caring staff has given our family!.
Bootiful Moments!
We had a spooktacular time at our trunk or treat! Our residents have not stopped talking about all the kids in their costumes! We hope our family, friends, and the upstate had a great time.

Associate of the Month
KD Grant

Our November employee of the month is Khadija Grant (KD)! KD has been at Oakview Park for around 8 months and is a caregiver as well as a medtech! She loves her job because working with seniors brings joy to her life and she enjoys taking care of the residents.
KD stated that the residents have many words of advice and wisdom to share, and she likes to hear what they have to say. She knew this was something she wanted to do because she took on the role of helping her mom with her condition that was very similar to some of the residents at Oakview Park.
Even after her mother’s passing helping others was still KD’s passion. She is a boy mom to three boys ages 9, 5, and 3. KD loves to cook, hanging out with her family and friends, doing hair, going shopping, being a mom, and of course working at Oakview Park!
Dog Therapy
We enjoy having our special furry friends come in twice a month! Elle Mae and her handler Michelle love visiting and putting our residents at ease with all of the puppy cuddles and pets.
