MACON, GA — On Thursday, October 24, Madison Heights at The Prado hosted an event designed to connect its senior residents with young students through reading and music.
Ms. Janice ‘Jan’ Brown, an 80-year-old resident, visited Ms. Johnson’s 2nd-grade class at Springdale Elementary School to read Piper Chen Sings and lead the students in sing-alongs, creating an engaging moment for all involved.
A part of the nationwide “Read for the Record” —a national campaign to bring young children together with grownups to read the same book—this visit introduced new voices and stories to the classroom. Students joined in with smiles and clapping while Jan shared her enjoyment of books and music with a fresh audience.
“Our residents gain so much when they interact with younger generations, and the kids benefit from the wisdom and joy our residents share,” said Amy Cole, Regional Sales Director of Madison Heights at The Prado. “Seeing Ms. Jan connect with the students through her love for reading and music is a reminder of how stories and songs bring us together.”
Jan expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I loved seeing the children, and I can’t wait to go back soon! I have more stories to tell and more songs to sing.”
