Congratulations to Wanda for being chosen as the Associate of the Month!

Wanda is bubbly and greets everyone with a smile. She keeps the residents and staff laughing. She treats everyone with respect and kindness.

She is reliable and timely. Wanda will step in to help when it is needed and keeps a positive outlook.

Thank you Wanda for all that you do!

Come celebrate Mom or Dad!

We have had a great time on outings recently. We have visited Dutch Creek Animal Farm, Hope for Hooves Rescue, Doc’s Porchside, Pizza Central, The Morris Museum of Art and have been on numerous scenic drives. What a great time we have had hitting the town!

Elvis was in the building and our residents loved rocking and rolling with him!

Support Group

A Support group led by a Madison Heights staff member meets the third Thursday of each month at 2:00 at the Columbia County Library downstairs near the reference desk.

All family members or caregivers of someone with a dementia diagnosis are welcome to attend. Don’t forget to invite others who you think would benefit from additional support. We want to reach as many people as possible that need support. Those who invite a friend will be entered for a drawing for a gift card.

For more information, contact Kelly at 706-364-8710 or kelly@madisonheightsevans.com

We have visited with dogs, rabbits and goats these last couple months. Animals continue to bring out the best in us and we love being on the receiving end of their cuddles.

Around the World with Atlas - México

Around the world with Atlas
Around the World with Atlas, México

This month we will be exploring the Beauty of Mexico: A Journey Through Culture and Tradition.

For those who appreciate history, vibrant traditions, and delicious cuisine, Mexico offers a wonderful destination—whether to visit in person or explore from the comfort of home. With its deep-rooted heritage and warm hospitality, Mexico is a country that continues to captivate people of all ages.

Mexico’s history dates back thousands of years to civilizations such as the Maya, Aztec, and Olmec. These cultures built impressive pyramids, developed sophisticated calendars, and left behind fascinating ruins that can still be visited today. Destinations such as Chichén Itzá in the Yucatán Peninsula and Teotihuacán near Mexico City offer a glimpse into this rich past. For those unable to travel, documentaries and virtual tours provide excellent ways to explore these historic sites.

We hope that your St. Patrick’s Day was as magical as ours!

Viva México !!
Around the World with Atlas

A Land of Spirit, Color, and Eternal Stories, Mexico is more than a country—it’s a heartbeat, a song carried by the wind across deserts, jungles, mountains, and beautyful beaches. A place where ancient civilizations whisper through pyramids and murals, and modern life dances to the rhythm of a strong and unique cultural heritage.

The word “México” comes from the Náhuatl words “Metztli” (moon) and “xictli” (navel or belly button), meaning “the belly button of the moon.” The Mexicas pronounced it “Meshico.”

According to legend, the Mexica people were the last of the nomadic tribes to arrive in central Anáhuac (yep, that was the ancient name for the heartland of what’s now Mexico). They came from a mythical island called Aztlán—which is why they’re also called Aztecs. They were searching for a sign sent by their main god, Huitzilopochtli: an eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus, devouring a snake. That was the sacred place where they were to build their city.

And they did find it—right in the middle of a vast lake called Texcoco. Legend says they took refuge on that small patch of land in the lake and founded their settlement, Tenochtitlan, around 1325. By the time the Spanish arrived in 1519, they were stunned by the sight of a majestic, dream-like well-organized metropolis—Tenochtitlan—one of the largest cities in the world at that time.

Modern representation of the legendary Tenochtitlan in 1519 (now Mexico City). Some estimates suggest the city had around 250,000 inhabitants at the time. During major celebrations linked to their gods, it could hold up to half a million people.

Reminders

Everyone should be signing in when you enter the buildings and signing out when you exit the building. This is for the safety of our residents and our guests. If you are planning on taking your loved one out of the building with you, it is imperative that you let the staff on duty know that she/he is leaving the building.

Please remember that monthly payments are due by the 10th of the month. I encourage those of you who aren’t already utilizing EFT, to do so. Other forms of payment are include: our online portal and dropping a check off in the drop box outside of Shamane and Angela’s office. Please do not give your payment to another associate other than Marcus to limit anything being lost.

When you visit, please check the inventory of your loved one’s toiletries and applicable incontinence products in the respective bathroom and closet.

At move in, a responsible party for each resident is designated and that is the person we ultimately contact and communicate with regarding updates on the resident. If the responsible party wants us to notify other family members of a certain aspect of the resident’s care, the responsible party needs to notify us of that. Communication with too many family members can create confusion and misinterpretation on the resident’s care which isn’t in the best interest of the resident.
