German Music Legacy
Alexa, play Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 4, BWV 1049, Allegro
This concerto is full of life and beauty, with the flute, violin, and harpsichord leading the orchestra in joyful dialogue. At the time, Bach often directed the ensemble from the harpsichord, but he was also one of the most skilled violinists of his era. You can easily imagine him conducting from the harpsichord with a violin in hand—an image that perfectly captures the spirit of this vibrant masterpiece.
Join us for Fall Festival!
We will be holding our annual fall festival on Wednesday, October 22 from 5:30-7:00 in the Washington Place/Adams Place parking lot.
We hope that you will join us as we celebrate the season with our residents and the community. You are invited to bring your children or grandchildren to trunk or treat or participate in the many activities that we will be hosting to include crafts, games, face painting and a music circle. No kids? No problem! Still come to enjoy the evening with your loved one.
If you would like to decorate a trunk or donate candy please reach out to Kelly at 706-364-8710 or kelly@madisonheightsevans.com.
Welcome to Germany
Around the World with Atlas
Germany’s history stretches back to ancient tribes such as the Saxons, Franks, and Goths, whose resilience left a mark on Europe’s foundations. From the crowning of Charlemagne in 800 AD to the rise of the Holy Roman Empire under Otto I, the medieval period saw the growth of a diverse cultural and political landscape. Moments of transformation, like Martin Luther’s Protestant Reformation, sparked new ideas that influenced the world far beyond Germany’s borders.
In the centuries that followed, the rise of Prussia and the eventual German unification in 1871 brought together a patchwork of regions into a modern and power nation.
Though the 20th century was marked by hardship and division, after two awful wars, Germany was in ruin and divided by a wall, years of division goes by until the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the re-unification of Germany opened the path to a new chapter. Today, Germany stands as a symbol of resilience and renewal—celebrated for its music, philosophy, literature, and innovations, as well as its role as a cultural and economic leader in Europe.
Angelika Comes to Visit
We love that local artist, Angelika, visits us monthly to inspire creativity and make art with our residents. In case you have not been here for one of her sessions, she hands out pictures from magazines or calendars and invites residents to choose one they like. Once they have done that, she sketches the picture, and residents are able to paint what she has drawn. Many residents take off and create their whole image on their own while other wait for more direction. For many of us, Angelika will fill in the fine details like eyes and shadows, but the brunt of the work is done by our amazing residents.
Walk to End Alzheimer's
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the fight at the Walk to End Alzheimer’s! We are grateful for those who were able to attend physically as well as those who made a donation to this great cause.
The Valknut
The Valknut, a symbol of three interlocked triangles, is tied to Odin in Norse mythology. Found on ancient stones and artifacts, it represents the mysteries of life, death, and the warrior’s passage to the afterlife, other schoolars sugest that the 9 points/intersections represent the 9 worlds in the Norse Mythology and how they are some how interconected.

Halloween
Halloween’s roots go back to the Celtic festival of Samhain, marking the end of harvest and the start of winter. Germanic tribes carried these traditions—bonfires and beliefs about roaming spirits—into Europe, where they blended with local customs to become today’s Halloween.
Resident of the Month
Ralph
Ralph is our Resident of the Month. Ralph just celebrated his 95th birthday but you would never know if just from looking at him. Ralph is a gentle, kind man whose eyes light up when he smiles. He is the happiest when he is visited by family, animals or children. Ralph may secretly be an animal whisperer as almost all of the animals that cuddle with him end up so comfortable that they fall asleep in his arms. Ralph was a fisherman by hobby and enjoys spending time outside. He also likes sweeping and happily helps keep the floors clean.
Time with Tots
Time with Tots is always a bright spot for our residents! There is nothing more beautiful than our walls filling with the sounds of children laughing, playing and singing. During this time, our residents also enjoy reminiscing about having young children and grandchildren in the house. The love and smiles that these children share with our residents is a priceless gift.
