From France with Love

Alexa, play Vanille Fraise, by L'Impératrice.

Vanille Fraise” by L’Impératrice(2015) is a dreamy, stylish blend of soft synths, smooth vocals, and modern French disco flair. Sweet, nostalgic, and effortlessly cool, it captures the band’s signature mix of elegance and groove in one irresistible track. It shows why L’Impératrice is one of France’s most exciting contemporary bands.

A Visit from Buddy and Jett

Our residents were excited to start their week with a visit from Buddy and Jett, two of our horse friends. We enjoyed feeding the horses treats and learning more about their stories. They were both gentle and patient with us and certainly brightened all of our day.

Animals have proven to have multiple benefits for people with dementia including decreasing agitation, anxiety and depression. Animals also offer many calming benefits.

On top of visiting with the horses, we also got to hear many tales from our residents regarding their past experiences riding or raising horses. We learned stories that would not have been told without these amazing animals in our presence.

Welcome to France
Around the World with Atlas

France is a country built on centuries of history, artistry, and revolutionary ideas. From ancient Gaul and the rise of the Frankish kingdoms to the birth of the modern French state, its story is one of transformation. The foundations of France took shape through the coronation of Clovis in the 5th century, the brilliance of Charlemagne’s empire, and the evolution of a nation that would eventually stand at the center of European culture and politics. Over time, France became known not only for its kings and cathedrals but for a spirit of curiosity and change that shaped the world.

French culture has left an indelible mark across the arts, philosophy, cuisine, literature, and fashion. From the Enlightenment thinkers who reimagined human rights to the painters who transformed visual expression — Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, Degas — France has long been a beacon for creativity. Its influence extends into cinema, music, architecture, and the culinary traditions cherished worldwide, from buttery croissants to slow-cooked Coq au Vin. Every corner of French life carries a sense of refinement balanced with a deep appreciation for pleasure, beauty, and daily rituals.

To explore France is to step into a living tapestry of medieval villages, grand boulevards, vineyards, seaside cliffs, and cafés where time seems to slow down. It is a country that invites discovery — whether through the echo of cathedral bells, the quiet glow of a museum hall, or the simple joy of strolling along the Seine. France welcomes visitors not just to see its landmarks but to feel its spirit: a blend of elegance, history, and poetic charm that has captivated the world for centuries.

Sharing Thanks Together

Thank you for everyone who joined us for our annual Family Thanksgiving Lunch. It was great seeing so many family members visit and seeing the joy on the faces of our residents as they shared a meal together. Our culinary team made a delicious meal and were able to successfully accommodate the large number of guests and still provide top quality food.

“What greater blessing to give thanks for at a family gathering than the family and the gathering” Robert Brault

Out on the Town

We pride ourselves on offering a wide variety of outings for our residents. You may find us at the art museum, the movie theater, a local restaurant, exploring nature and wild life, enjoying a scenic drive around town, creating art and anywhere in between.

We love watching residents form relationships between buildings through enrichment opportunities and outings. It is especially gratifying to hear a resident say, “We sure had a ball on the town today, didn’t we.”

This month, a resident said, “That sure was a great day. I can’t wait to tell my son that I touched a snake. He won’t believe me!” This same resident said on the way to the outing that she would observe the snakes but keep her distance. When the opportunity came for her to pet a snake, she stated that she did not know that she would every have the opportunity again to touch a snake so she wanted to do it while she could.

Outings allow for our residents to experience things that may otherwise be foreign to them and to experience the same world in a new and exciting way.

Resident of the Month

Terry

Terry is our Resident of the Month!

Terry is a Georgia Tech graduate and a die-hard fan. He also enjoys UGA football and Braves baseball. Terry is a retired CPA with over 40 years in the field.

He is an Army Veteran and his face lit up when he was honored for Veteran’s Day and we were grateful to show him our gratitude as well as to see his long-standing gratitude for his country.

Terry’s cool fact is that he and his band opened for the Beatles in Atlanta 1965. His band, The Atlanta Vibrations, won a competition that allowed them this honor. In passing, if you ask Terry if he plays the guitar, he will play a bit of air guitar for you. But don’t be fooled, he can still make wonderful music on the guitar. This week he even played along with Shannon, our music therapist. He was able to follow her chords and play and sing along. It was fun watching his talent shine.

Support Group

Did you know that the Alzheimer’s Association offers Support Groups for those who have a loved one with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia? There are numerous Support Groups that meet in the CSRA. Kelly Adriano, our Lifestyles Director, leads a group the third Thursday of each month at 2:00 at the Columbia County Library. This Support Group is not only open to family members who have a loved one at Madison Heights but is open to the community as a whole. If this time does not work for you, there are other groups that meet monthly. You are encouraged to try any and all groups that you can fit into your schedule. It is often said in support groups that it is nice to speak with other people who are walking the same or a similar journey.
