Louise Pressley-Toomer

Associate of the Month

Louise Pressley-Toomer Associate of the Month

Louise Pressley-Toomer is a phenomenal medication aide with Wildcat Senior Living and has worked as part of the Wildcat family since April, giving love and care to our Wildcat residents.

Louise was born and raised in Charleston, SC with a few years in Virginia (though we won’t hold that against her). Louise has two amazing daughters; one will build her future homes and the other will keep her sweet tooth satisfied, as her oldest daughter is a pastry chef, and the youngest is a general contractor.

Louise has been happily assisting families and their loved ones for the past 10 years. It is her passion to provide love and care to those who need it the most.

Louise enjoys good soul food and homemade beef stew. Louise also enjoys reading and spending time with her beloved daughters in her down time.

We are incredibly grateful for Louise, our dedicated medication aide here at Wildcat Senior Living. Her commitment to ensuring the health and well-being of our residents is truly remarkable. With compassion and professionalism, Louise not only manages medications with precision but also takes the time to connect with each resident, providing comfort and reassurances. Her attentiveness and kindness make a significant difference in the lives of those around her. Thank you, Louise, for your unwavering support and for being a vital part of our Wildcat community and family!

I previously worked in other healthcare communities, and I have worn several different hats: from housekeeping, to caregiving, and even a chef! I have enjoyed every hat I’ve worn, but I’m more passionate about caring for our elderly residents.

Someone once told me that our senior citizens are like books filled with wisdom, knowledge, and history. From my years of caring for them with love and respect, I’ve got to say, they were absolutely right! So regardless of whatever hat I’m wearing, I hope that love, compassion, and respect will flow from me.

Thank you to all of our residents, family members, and team members for accepting me, helping me, and for all the generosity they’ve shown. I’m looking forward to meeting all of you and helping out any way I can. I’m very grateful to God for placing me at Wildcat. If you need anything, just let me know!

The Wildcat family welcomes Debbie to the team and looks forward to caring and loving on all Wildcat residents together!

Alzheimer's 2024 Walk and Wildcat

As the vibrant leaves of autumn begin to fall, the Wildcat Senior Living community has been buzzing with energy and purpose. This month, we came together to participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, an annual event that raises awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research.

A Community United
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is not just an event; it’s a movement. This year, Wildcat Senior Living’s Independent Living resident, Polly Phelps (and family) formed a team dedicated to supporting those affected by this devastating disease. We all donned purple, the official color of Alzheimer’s awareness, as we walked together, sharing stories and memories while raising funds to contribute to the cause. Next year, be on the lookout for a much bigger involvement from your Wildcat family. A special thank you to Polly for organizing us all this year!

The Day of the Walk
On the day of the walk, the energy was infectious. The Wildcat team gathered early, adorned in matching shirts and carrying our heart felt messages of hope with our Walk to End Alzheimer’s color-coded flowers that all meant something special to each of us. As we joined 2,000 other participants, the atmosphere was filled with laughter, music, and the shared goal of making a difference.

Participants took turns sharing their experiences with Alzheimer’s, reminding everyone of the importance of support and connection. For many, the event is not just about fundraising; it is about honoring loved ones and building a sense of community.

Making a Difference
The funds raised through the Walk to End Alzheimer’s will go directly toward care, support, and research initiatives. Wildcat Senior Living is proud to contribute to a cause that directly impacts many residents and their families.

Looking Ahead
Wildcat Senior Living remains committed to supporting Alzheimer’s awareness beyond the walk. Plans are already underway for more educational workshops and community outreach programs.

Together, we can continue to shine a light on Alzheimer’s disease and support those who need it most. Thank you to everyone who participated in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, and to all our residents for their resilience and commitment to making a difference.

Stay tuned for more community events and ways to get involved as we continue to build a supportive and caring environment at Wildcat Senior Living!

A Poem for our Veterans in honor of Veteran's Day

**To the Veterans**
In fields of honor, where shadows blend,
Brave hearts have risen, their spirits transcend.
With courage forged in the fire of strife,

They stand as the guardians of freedom and life.
From distant shores to the homefront’s embrace,
They’ve weathered the storms, faced the harshest of grace.
With stories untold, their memories roam,
In each silent salute, we welcome them home.

Through trials unnumbered, in darkness and light,
They fought for our futures, they stood for what’s right.
With every heartbeat, their legacy grows,
In whispers of gratitude, our reverence shows.

So let us remember, as years come and go,
The sacrifices made, the strength that they know.
For freedom is fragile, a gift we must tend,
To the veterans honored, our love without end.

Carolyn Christmas

Carolyn Christmas Resident of the Month

Carolyn grew up in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia near the small city of Waynesboro, where she attended elementary school and graduated from High School. Ms. Christmas attended Madison College (now, James Madison University) and transferred to Richmond Professional Institute (now, Virginia Commonwealth University) in Richmond, where she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration in Interior Design.

Carolyn met her husband, Edward (Ed) Christmas in 1987 and they married and lived in Waynesboro where Ed worked for the DuPont Company. In 1991 Ed was transferred to Singapore, and their son, Michael, and Carolyn were delighted to go with him. Michael attended Singapore American School his last two years of High School.

In 1995, the family returned to the US to live in North Carolina and in 2003 they built a home in Graham, NC. In 2004 Carolyn and Ed started working with Middle School English Teachers in China through a Christian Organization, Amity Foundation. They traveled back & forth for 8 summers and it was a great experience!

In 2011, SiHong Middle School asked Ed to teach in grades 6 and 7, to help with English Pronunciation and the advantage of learning English. The school let Carolyn shop for furniture for an apartment and they moved directly after, spending two months in the Spring and two months in the fall. Carolyn and her family did this for 5 years, completing their time there in 2016. It was a great experience for the whole family, and they made many lifelong friends from their journeys and adventures.

Sadly, after 30 wonderful years of marriage, Ed passed away in 2018. Carolyn moved to Palm Beach Gardens to find solace and enjoy their beach home in sunny Florida, where their memories could wash over her like the rays of sunshine.

In 2014, Carolyn’s son Michael married my wonderful daughter-in-law Claire, and they had 3 lovely children: Natalya, James and Caeden. In 2017 they moved to Summerville, SC and Carolyn became a ‘Great Granny’ of two rambunctious 3-year-old boys! While Natalya still lives in Colorado, Caeden and James live in Summerville, so Carolyn gets to spend and enjoy time with her boys and her great grandsons frequently.

Being close to family is very important to Carolyn and is the reason for her move to Summerville and to Wildcat Senior Living, where she has been making fast friends and has been a wonderful new addition to our Wildcat family! Thank you, Ms. Carolyn, for all that you have done and have continued to do since your arrival! We are honored to have you as a part of our Wildcat family!
