Meet Shelia Williams

A Heart for Care and a Life Full of Purpose
Shelia Williams is a compassionate and dedicated caregiver and medication aide who has been a valued member of the Wildcat Senior Living family for a little over two years. With a warm smile and a heart full of love, Shelia brings joy, comfort, and a genuine sense of care to everyone she meets.
“I truly love what I do,” Shelia shares. “It brings me so much joy to care for our residents and to be part of their everyday lives.” Her commitment shines through in every task—whether she’s offering a helping hand, sharing a laugh, or simply being a kind and reassuring presence. Her natural ability to nurture and care for others has been a constant throughout her life and career.
Before joining Wildcat, Shelia built an impressive and diverse background in caregiving and public service. She began her career caring for infants at St. Luke’s Children Center for ten years and later supported students with special needs at Newington Elementary for more than twelve years. Her passion for helping others then led her to pursue a Criminal Justice and Paralegal degree, briefly working in the prison system before earning her Pharmacy Tech certification and gaining experience in retail pharmacy.
Shelia’s dedication doesn’t stop at Wildcat’s doors. When she’s not at the community, she can often be found supporting court cases at the county level or working within Dorchester District 2, continuing her lifelong mission of service.
Outside of work, Shelia is a proud wife, mother, and dog mom. Her husband works for the Town of Summerville and runs his own landscaping business. Their son, Travon, travels the world for work and contributes locally when he’s home, while their 16-year-old daughter is preparing for her future by exploring psychiatry courses this summer. Rounding out the family is Diamond, their beloved beagle mix who keeps things lively at home.
Shelia’s life is filled with love, laughter, and a strong sense of purpose—qualities that she brings into every aspect of her work. We are incredibly grateful to have her as part of the Wildcat family. Thank you, Shelia, for all that you do. You truly make Wildcat a better place!

Around the World with Atlas
A Land of Spirit, Color, and Eternal Stories, Mexico is more than a country—it’s a heartbeat, a song carried by the wind across deserts, jungles, mountains, and beautyful beaches. A place where ancient civilizations whisper through pyramids and murals, and modern life dances to the rhythm of a strong and unique cultural heritage.
The word “México” comes from the Náhuatl words “Metztli” (moon) and “xictli” (navel or belly button), meaning “the belly button of the moon.” The Mexicas pronounced it “Meshico.”
According to legend, the Mexica people were the last of the nomadic tribes to arrive in central Anáhuac (yep, that was the ancient name for the heartland of what’s now Mexico). They came from a mythical island called Aztlán—which is why they’re also called Aztecs. They were searching for a sign sent by their main god, Huitzilopochtli: an eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus, devouring a snake. That was the sacred place where they were to build their city.
And they did find it—right in the middle of a vast lake called Texcoco. Legend says they took refuge on that small patch of land in the lake and founded their settlement, Tenochtitlan, around 1325. By the time the Spanish arrived in 1519, they were stunned by the sight of a majestic, dream-like well-organized metropolis—Tenochtitlan—one of the largest cities in the world at that time.

Resident of the Month
Joyce Johnson & Lucy Gastle

At Wildcat Senior Living, our community is shaped by the remarkable stories and beautiful friendships of our residents. This month, we’re honored to spotlight not one, but two incredible women who light up our halls with their warmth, wisdom, and laughter: Joyce Johnson and Lucy Gastle—roommates, friends, and cherished members of our Wildcat family.
Meet Joyce Johnson
Born in January 1938 in Gaffney, South Carolina, Joyce Johnson grew up on a cotton farm with her three brothers. A proud “mama’s girl,” Joyce’s early life was full of family, faith, and farm life. Though she lived in Texas and Mexico for some time, her heart always brought her back to South Carolina.
Her love story began in 1956 when she returned home to visit her brother—and met her future husband through a mutual friend in the Navy. They were married in 1957, just one day after reconnecting. Over the years, the couple lived a life of travel and dedication, stationed across Charleston, the Great Lakes, Japan, and Long Beach, California. During her husband’s service in Vietnam, Joyce found comfort in her family, splitting her time between Texas and South Carolina.
Joyce and her husband were married for 25 years and raised two children, Kimberly and James. She’s also the proud grandmother of two grandsons. A devoted “band mom” for 12 years, Joyce traveled alongside her children for competitions and events. She loved camping trips, especially to Myrtle Beach, and has always held her faith close—cherishing Sunday School and Vacation Bible School throughout her life.
Meet Lucy Gastle
Born in November 1934 in Buffalo, New York, Lucy Gastle has lived a life marked by service, family, and strong community roots. She attended Bishop McMahan Catholic School, where she developed a love for learning, roller skating, and the arts. Later, she married the love of her life, Richard Gastle, a police officer, and together they raised six wonderful children—three daughters (Deborah, Linda, Mary) and three sons (James, Frank, Bill).
Lucy was not only a dedicated homemaker but also an entrepreneur. In 1973, she opened her own hair salon, appropriately named “Lucy’s”, on Genesee Street in Buffalo, New York. Her passion for people and style made her salon a beloved neighborhood gem for years.
After retiring, Lucy moved to Bemus Point, New York, where she continued giving back—volunteering for five years at a local senior living facility. In 1993, she and Richard relocated to Summerville, South Carolina. There, Lucy volunteered at the Summerville Medical Center for over 15 years, where her kindness and commitment earned her the Volunteer of the Year award—twice!
Lucy has always embraced her role as a mother and nurturer. She loved cooking, camping trips with her kids, and later became an avid reader and writer. She even had a pen-pal in Australia for over 25 years—a testament to her gift for connecting with others. She’s also an at-large member of Blessed Savior Lutheran Church in Summerville and enjoys solving crossword puzzles in her downtime.
Now, Lucy proudly calls Wildcat home and can often be found enjoying the community’s delicious meals (especially the pizza!), spreading kindness, and forming new friendships every day. She says Wildcat is the best place she’s ever lived—and we’re lucky to have her here!
A Special Bond
Joyce and Lucy are more than just roommates—they’re a perfect example of how deep friendships can form at any stage of life. Their shared experiences, mutual respect, and daily laughs make them an unforgettable pair. Whether they’re reminiscing, attending events, or simply enjoying each other’s company, they truly embody the spirit of community that makes Wildcat so special.
Thank you, Joyce and Lucy, for sharing your stories, your hearts, and your light with all of us. You make Wildcat Senior Living a better place—and we’re thrilled to celebrate you this May and beyond!
