Associate of the Month

Frances Demers

We are delighted to celebrate Frances DeMers as our December Associate Spotlight!
Frances was born on April 24, 1961, to Loe and Beverly Roe, and grew up in a lively household with three sisters and two brothers. She graduated from Breckenridge Junior–Senior High School in 1979 and soon after began her very first job at Dunkin’ Donuts—where fate stepped in. It was there she met her future husband, Michael DeMers, and the two have now been married for an incredible 42 years.
Together, Frances and Michael have built a beautiful family with three daughters, nine grandchildren, and two beloved pets: Jake, their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and Sassy, their spirited tortoiseshell cat.
Michael’s Army career brought the family to Florence, South Carolina in 1995, where Frances began working for the South Carolina Department of Corrections. She proudly served for 26½ years, retiring in April 2022. In 2012, the couple moved to Summerville to be closer to their grandchildren and for Frances to complete her career.
Frances joined the Wildcat family in February 2025 and has quickly become a beloved member of our caregiving team. She approaches each day with enthusiasm, compassion, and her signature fun-loving spirit. Whether she’s sharing a laugh, offering a warm smile, or darting through the halls with boundless energy, Frances has a gift for lifting the spirits of everyone she encounters.
When she’s not working, Frances enjoys traveling, reading, creating diamond art, and listening to her favorite 70s and 80s country music.
We are so grateful for the joy, dedication, and heart Frances brings to Wildcat Senior Living. Congratulations, Frances, and thank you for making Wildcat feel like home for our residents every single day!

From France with Love

Alexa, play Minor Swing, by Django Reinhardt.

Django Reinhardt’s Minor Swing (1937) is one of the most electrifying pieces in French music history — a cornerstone of Gypsy jazz and a brilliant display of Django’s unmatched guitar mastery. Paired with Stéphane Grappelli’s effortlessly swinging violin, the track bursts with rhythm, improvisation, and the unmistakable flair of Parisian jazz cafés of the 1930s. Even today, Minor Swing feels fresh, bold, and unique — a timeless tribute to Reinhardt’s genius and the vibrant soul of French jazz.

Wildcat’s First Annual Tree Lighting & Candle Vigil: A New Tradition of Love and Remembrance

This December, Wildcat Senior Living proudly began a heartfelt new tradition with our First Annual Tree Lighting and Candle Tree Vigil Ceremony—a luminous tribute dedicated to honoring the loved ones who are no longer with us but remain forever present in our hearts. The evening was filled with warmth, reflection, and unity as residents, families, and staff gathered together beneath the soft glow of the holiday lights.
The ceremony began with a moment of quiet reflection as attendees were invited to share in the spirit of remembrance. One by one, candles were lit and placed upon our Memory Tree, each flame representing a cherished life and a treasured memory. As the candles flickered and the tree began to shimmer under their gentle light, the courtyard transformed into a sanctuary of peace—glowing not only with candlelight, but with love, gratitude, and shared experience.
The symbolism of the evening was profound. Each candle reminded us that while loss shapes us, love continues to illuminate even the darkest spaces. The combined glow of the Memory Tree reflected the strength of our Wildcat community: individuals coming together, supporting one another, and creating something beautiful from their collective resilience and compassion.
Residents and families expressed how meaningful it was to take part in a ceremony that honored their loved ones in such a personal and uplifting way. Many shared stories, tears, and smiles—moments that deepened bonds and reminded us all of the comfort found in community.
As the final candle was placed and the Memory Tree stood gracefully lit, it was clear that this new tradition would become a beloved annual event. The evening created a moment of connection and peace that will stay with us, shining brightly as we carry the memories of our loved ones forward into the holiday season and beyond.

Welcome to France
Around the World with Atlas

France is a country built on centuries of history, artistry, and revolutionary ideas. From ancient Gaul and the rise of the Frankish kingdoms to the birth of the modern French state, its story is one of transformation. The foundations of France took shape through the coronation of Clovis in the 5th century, the brilliance of Charlemagne’s empire, and the evolution of a nation that would eventually stand at the center of European culture and politics. Over time, France became known not only for its kings and cathedrals but for a spirit of curiosity and change that shaped the world.

French culture has left an indelible mark across the arts, philosophy, cuisine, literature, and fashion. From the Enlightenment thinkers who reimagined human rights to the painters who transformed visual expression — Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, Degas — France has long been a beacon for creativity. Its influence extends into cinema, music, architecture, and the culinary traditions cherished worldwide, from buttery croissants to slow-cooked Coq au Vin. Every corner of French life carries a sense of refinement balanced with a deep appreciation for pleasure, beauty, and daily rituals.

To explore France is to step into a living tapestry of medieval villages, grand boulevards, vineyards, seaside cliffs, and cafés where time seems to slow down. It is a country that invites discovery — whether through the echo of cathedral bells, the quiet glow of a museum hall, or the simple joy of strolling along the Seine. France welcomes visitors not just to see its landmarks but to feel its spirit: a blend of elegance, history, and poetic charm that has captivated the world for centuries.

Mepkin Abbey Christmas Nativity Travels

Residents recently enjoyed a peaceful and meaningful holiday outing to the stunning Mepkin Abbey, a Trappist monastery and spiritual retreat known for its serene landscapes and sacred atmosphere. This seasonal visit centered around the Abbey’s annual Christmas Nativity Exhibit, a beloved Lowcountry tradition that draws guests from near and far.
As residents strolled through the thoughtfully crafted displays, they were met with scenes depicting the story of Christmas through beautifully arranged nativity sets—each carefully curated, each with its own cultural interpretation and symbolic depth. The gentle quiet of the Abbey grounds, paired with the reverence of the exhibit, created a moving and reflective experience for all in attendance.
From intricately carved wooden figurines to elaborate international nativity scenes, the artistry and meaning behind each display offered residents a chance to pause, breathe, and fully embrace the peace and joy of the season. Staff noted that many residents described the outing as “breathtaking,” “deeply calming,” and “a perfect way to begin the holidays with intention.”
The trip to Mepkin Abbey served not only as a beautiful seasonal activity but as a reminder of the power of reflection and togetherness. We look forward to making this a cherished Wildcat tradition for years to come.

Josh Farley, Illusionist Extraordinaire

Wildcat Senior Living was recently treated to an afternoon of wonder, mystery, and pure entertainment courtesy of the brilliant Josh Farley, a master illusionist whose talent left residents buzzing long after the show concluded. From mind-bending card tricks to disappearing acts that defied explanation, Josh captivated his audience from the very first moment.
Residents gasped, laughed, and leaned in closer as each trick unfolded. Some insisted they almost figured out how he pulled it off—only to be fooled again! Josh’s charisma and quick wit made the show even more engaging, creating an atmosphere full of delight and shared amazement. His ability to connect with the audience, joke with residents, and build suspense between illusions transformed the performance into a lively and interactive experience.
For many, it was a refreshing reminder that a little magic can brighten even the most ordinary day. The activity team is already exploring the idea of bringing Josh back in the future—and judging by the glowing feedback from residents, his return would be met with eager anticipation.
It was truly a magical afternoon at Wildcat!

Shopping Spree & Lunch at Page’s Okra Grill

Our Memory Care neighborhood came alive in October as we hosted a wonderful Family Night with Church of Cane Bay! The evening was filled with laughter, games, and heartwarming fellowship that brought together residents, families, and our friends from the church for a night of joy and togetherness.

Tables were full of games like bingo, dominoes, trivia, and ring toss—each one sparking laughter and cheerful competition. The room buzzed with happiness as residents shared snacks, swapped stories, and connected with loved ones. Volunteers from Church of Cane Bay filled the evening with their signature kindness and positivity, creating a truly special atmosphere.

Moments like these are what make Wildcat feel like home. Family Night gave our residents a sense of community and belonging that extends beyond our walls, reminding us that love and laughter are powerful medicine for the heart. We are so thankful to the Church of Cane Bay for their partnership and compassion—it was a night to remember and one we can’t wait to repeat!

Resident of the Month

Carolyn Christmas

Wildcat Senior Living is honored to feature Ms. Carolyn Christmas as our December Resident Spotlight. Since joining our community, Ms. Christmas has made a swift, meaningful, and lasting impression on residents and staff alike. Her warm spirit, thoughtful nature, and commitment to enriching the lives of those around her have quickly become part of the heartbeat of Wildcat.
One of Ms. Christmas’s treasured contributions is her dedication to beautifying our shared spaces. Shortly after making Wildcat her home, she took it upon herself to create a stunning flower garden beside the clubhouse- designing, planting, and nurturing it entirely by hand. In recognition of her generosity and the joy her garden brings to our community, the space has been officially named the “Wildcat Garden.” A sign proudly displayed reads:
“Wildcat’s Garden: Plantings by the Benevolence and Generosity of Mrs. Christmas.”
This heartfelt tribute serves as a lasting reminder of the kindness and community spirit she has brought to Wildcat Senior Living. She has also been a cheerful steward of our community recycling efforts, helping to keep Wildcat beautiful and environmentally conscientious.
Ms. Christmas’s story begins in the scenic Shenandoah Valley of Virginia near Waynesboro, where she attended local schools and graduated from high school. She went on to pursue higher education at Madison College—now James Madison University—before transferring to Richmond Professional Institute (today Virginia Commonwealth University), where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design.
In 1987, she met and married her husband, Edward “Ed” Christmas, and together they built a life rooted in adventure, service, and family. After settling in Waynesboro while Ed worked for the DuPont Company, the couple embarked on an international chapter when Ed was transferred to Singapore in 1991. Their son Michael attended the Singapore American School, completing his last two years of high school abroad.
In 1995, the family returned to the United States and moved to North Carolina. They built a home in Graham in 2003, just before beginning one of the most meaningful experiences of their lives: partnering with the Amity Foundation, a Christian organization supporting English teachers in China. Beginning in 2004, they spent eight summers working alongside middle school educators. Their commitment deepened in 2011 when SiHong Middle School invited Ed to teach English pronunciation. The school provided a furnished apartment where the couple lived for two months in the spring and two months in the fall for five wonderful years. They completed their service in 2016, having formed lifelong friendships and cherished memories.
After Ed’s passing in 2018, Ms. Christmas moved to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where she enjoyed coastal living. Her family continued to grow—her son Michael married Claire in 2014, adding three step-grandchildren, and later welcomed great-grandchildren as well. When Michael and his family relocated to Summerville, Ms. Christmas chose to follow, desiring to be close to those she loves most.
Today, Ms. Christmas continues to cultivate beauty, connection, and kindness here at Wildcat Senior Living. Whether tending to the Wildcat Garden, supporting recycling efforts, or making new friendships with grace and joy, she enriches our community every day—and we are deeply grateful to spotlight her this month.
