One of the most enduring symbols in the United States is the bald eagle—a majestic bird chosen in 1782 as the national emblem.

With its fierce gaze and powerful wingspan, the bald eagle represents strength, courage, and the soaring ideals of liberty that define the American identity.

Exploring Foods Across The USA

Flavors of the USA: A Food Tour from Coast to Coast
America is full of unique flavors, and some of the tastiest can be found in Hawaii, Las Vegas, Tennessee, and New York
Hawaii brings the taste of the islands with fresh pineapple, sweet Hawaiian rolls, and poke bowls made with marinated fish and rice. A sip of coconut water or a bite of a tropical fruit instantly feels like a beach getaway.
In Las Vegas, buffets are king! This city offers everything—from steak and shrimp to desserts piled high. It’s a place where food is just as showy as the entertainment, with dishes from all over the world.
Tennessee is all about Southern comfort. Think crispy fried chicken, smoky barbecue, biscuits with gravy, and of course, sweet tea. It’s hearty, home-style cooking that warms the soul.
New York offers big flavor in every bite. Think classic New-York style pizza, bagels with cream cheese, soft pretzels and famous New York cheesecake. It’s a city known for bold tastes and iconic street foods.
From tropical treats to city eats, every stop on our food tour is full of flavor and fun.

Jazz Masterpieces

Alexa play "Take Five" from "Dave Brubeck Quartet"

From the 1959 Album, Time Out, this groundbreaking tune in 5/4 time became the best-selling jazz single ever. Its unusual rhythm and catchy piano riff helped jazz cross over into mainstream popularity.

Rock & Roll
Hall of Fame

Alexa play "Hound Dog" from "Elvis Presley"

Is fair to say that Rock & Roll was born a bit earlier.. but with swagger and rebellious energy, Elvis turned this 1956 R&B tune into a rock & roll phenomenon. It captured the spirit of teenage America and broke racial and musical barriers on national TV.

Armchair Travel: Exploring the United States from Coast to Coast.
This month, our Armchair Travel adventure takes us across the United States as we visit four exciting and uniquely American destinations—all from the comfort of our community!

Hawaii
Our journey begins west on the islands of Hawaii, where the air smells of tropical flowers and the ukulele sets a calming tone. Residents will enjoy Hawaiian music, try some pineapple or coconut-inspired treats, and learn about hula dancing and the traditions of the native Hawaiian people. It’s a relaxing island escape without leaving home!

Las Vegas, Nevada
Next, we enter the dazzling desert city of Las Vegas, known for its bright lights, grand hotels, and exciting entertainment. We’ll explore iconic landmarks like the Bellagio fountains and the replica Eiffel Tower, and enjoy the glitz and glamor of the Strip. We’ll listen to play slot machines and maybe even play a casino style game or two.

Our third stop the vibrant city of New York—where the energy is unmatched! From Broadway tunes and jazz to iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building and Central Park. We’ll reminisce about the Big Apple and celebrate the city that never sleeps!

Tennessee
We wrap up our tour in Tennessee, home to country music, smoky mountains, and southern charm. Residents will enjoy listening to the legends of country like Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton, explore the sounds of Memphis blues including everyone’s favorite, Elvis, and savor a little southern cooking. It’s a toe-tapping, heartwarming end to our American journey.

All Aboard the Imagination Express!

Staying Healthy During the Summer Months in Florida

Florida summers are known for their sunshine, but the heat and humidity can pose challenges for older adults. Staying healthy and safe during this time is all about preparation and good habits.

Hydration is Key
Seniors are more prone to dehydration, so it’s essential to drink plenty of water throughout the day, even if you don’t feel thirsty. Keep a water bottle handy and enjoy hydrating snacks like watermelon and cucumbers.
Dress Smart and Stay Cool
Lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and wide-brimmed hats help keep the body cool. Avoid going outside during peak heat hours (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.). If you do go out, find shade and take breaks often.
Protect Your Skin
Apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30 and reapply every two hours, especially if sweating or swimming. Sunglasses also help protect eyes from UV rays.
Stay Active Safely
Exercise indoors during the hottest parts of the day. Group fitness classes, walking in air-conditioned malls, or water aerobics are great low-impact options.
Watch for Signs of Heat Illness
Know the signs of heat exhaustion—dizziness, nausea, headache, or heavy sweating—and seek help immediately if they occur.
With the right care, Florida’s summer can be enjoyed safely and comfortably by seniors.

Gene Morvay

Gene Morvay

Say hello to our amazing Resident of the Month—Gene, a proud New Yorker with a life full of rhythm, passion, and unforgettable stories.
Gene has been a drummer since the age of 10, and his love for music carried him through an incredible career. After being drafted into the Army in 1945 and playing in the Army Band, Gene returned home and followed his dreams, marrying in 1958 and raising two children—a son and a daughter.
At the height of his music career, Gene performed with legends like Tony Bennett, Marvin Hamlisch, and many more. In the 1970s, he kept the beat going during nationally broadcast telethons, sharing the stage with some of the era’s biggest stars.
Now, at 98 years young, Gene says his secret to staying youthful is simple: “Keep on drumming.” 🥁 And he does—still tapping to the beat and inspiring everyone around him.
We’re so honored to have Gene in our community. His rhythm, energy, and stories bring joy to us all!
You can catch him playing along with our scheduled entertainment at our weekly happy hour!
