Memory Care Activity Highlights
Armchair Travel: It might be difficult to travel to the Grand Tetons National Park – or is it? This month, Memory Care will be doing some sightseeing around the world! On YouTube, there are lots of high-quality armchair travel drone films. They film with a drone over beautiful landscapes, showing places most people would never be able to see. The film is set to peaceful instrumental music and everyone loves it. Some of the places we are visiting are, Grand Tetons, Portugal, and Wyoming.
Halloween Event: Our outside Cars and Coffee on 10/26 from 8-11 is going to be a blast. We have trunk or teat, an open haunted house, and of course, lots of yummy treats! We will also have a Halloween Party with fun decorations and “scary” food. Families are invited to join us with both the cars and coffee and the Halloween party.
Exercise, Music, and Art: We have been working on getting a great Memory Care program, and I want to highlight three activities we are proud of. Exercise is all about movement and fun. When we move, stretch, and dance we feel better. Having a good range of motion increases their ability to do simple everyday tasks and move more easily and with less pain. Music brings the residents back to happy times. We will be starting an activity called ‘Drum Circle”. Residents get to play the drums with the beat of music. Art improves concentration, and problem-solving skills and reduces feelings of anxiety and depression. This month we will be doing the mountains of Grand Tetons National Park in watercolor, and fun Halloween crafts, which include torn paper collages.
October Activity Highlights
Therapy Dogs – A dog therapy trainer has been volunteering his time by bringing dogs into the community to spend time with everyone. These are special dogs, they are going through their training to become certified therapy dogs. A therapy dog provides comfort, emotional support, and love. Kevin will be bringing in the dogs every Sunday at 2 pm and going into Memory Care at 3 pm. If you would like the dogs to visit your apartment, please call the front desk before 2 pm.
Halloween Cars & Coffee Event – This will be on Saturday 10/26 from 8 am to 11 am. We will have cars that are decorated in different themes for Halloween. We will also have an open haunted house, along with food and treats!
Halloween Costume Parade, Contest, and Party – On Halloween, October 31st, we are having lots of fun. All month you can start decorating your door for Halloween, and on the 31st everyone will vote for the best decorated door. The prize will be a $25 gift card to Walmart. Second, we will have a contest for the best Halloween costume, and we will be giving out gift cards for that as well. A flyer will go out explaining in more detail, but if you want to dress up on Halloween, let Jennifer Nolan know so we can get a list of everyone who is participating. Lastly, we will have a Halloween Party at 2 pm. You are not going to want to miss our ‘Vampire’s Kiss’ Punch and our Ghost S’mores Dip!
Healthy Living
Preventing Falls: Essential for maintaining good health and independence. Simple measures can significantly reduce the risk, such as ensuring your apartment is well-lit and, free of clutter. Take your time when showering and walking over bumps and curbs when outside. Regular exercise, particularly strength and balance helps improve stability and coordination.
Social Engagement: A key role in mental health; activities such as group outings, exercise classes, socials, happy hour, and both women’s and men’s clubs – foster connections and combat loneliness. The Goldton at Spring Hill is a vibrant and caring place that can empower everyone to thrive physically, mentally, and socially.
GRand Teton
National Park
The most popular months to visit are May through September. During the busy summer season, most roads and facilities are open and a full range of programs are available to enjoy.
The Historic Ryman Auditorium
The Ryman Auditorium has a rich history dating back to its construction in 1892. Originally built as the Union Gospel Tabernacle by local businessman Thomas Ryman, the venue was designed for religious services and gatherings. Its stunning Gothic architecture and excellent acoustics quickly made it a popular site for performances. In the 1940s, the Ryman became the home of the Grand Ole Opry, solidifying its status as a key location for country music. The auditorium fell into disrepair after the Opry moved to a new location in 1974, but a major restoration effort in the 1990s revitalized the building. Today, Ryman Auditorium is a historic landmark and continues to host concerts and events, celebrating its legacy as a cornerstone of American music history.
Resident of the Month
Bobbie Baker
Bobbie was born in North Carolina and moved a few times within North Carolina until she moved to Florida to live with her aunt, who already had seven children. Bobbie is a only child so she had a lot of fun with the other kids. They would play in caves, the woods, and all over. They lived near where they filmed the Tarzan movie, and one time she tried swinging on the vines, but fell right on her back. When Bobbie was 13 years old, she moved back with her mother and new stepfather in Tampa Florida. After high school, Bobbie worked as a long-distance operator for the Telephone company. Bobbie worked for them a long time. She then got married and had two children and was married 16 years before getting a divorce. Later, Bobbie then met and married the love of her life. After they retired, they traveled for two years before her husband got sick. He told Bobbie to keep traveling, and when he passed away, that was just what she did. She traveled with friends to many different countries. During one of her travels, she was on a camel in Egypt, looking at the Pyramids Of Giza. The travel guides kept taking her out farther and farther. Then they heard the police blow a whistle, and they brought her back. She found out that they were going to take her out to a far location, rob her, and leave her, but that whistle saved her. The Pyramids were very interesting to Bobbie, she said they had ancient drawings of the Red Sea parted. We are so fortunate to have Bobbie here! She is kind and loves doing activities and talking with friends here at the Goldton. You will see her at exercise, Bocce Ball, Mexican Train, all the socials, and more! Thank you Bobbie for your fun spirit and laugh.

Alvin Bills
My name is Alvin Bills. I live in North Columbia with my long-time girlfriend and two stepsons. I love to eat so I love to cook! When I’m not at work, I’m usually spending time with my family and friends. Some of my favorite things to do are watching football, movies, and fishing. Thank you Alvin for being so helpful. When you need something extra, he is there to go the extra mile. He was the first one on the scene of the outside fire, putting it out before anyone knew what was going on.
