January Highlights

HELLO, 2025!!! Happy New Year!
Last year, The Goldton celebrated a different National Park each month. This year, we are traveling around the world. In January, we are visiting, Brazil. Brazil is home to a diverse population of people with indigenous, Portuguese, European, and African ancestry. Brazil is the world’s fifth-largest country by both population and area.
Winter Wonderland Family Party: This will be a great party with lots of yummy food, entertainment, and family time!
Outings: We are going to Walmart two times this month. The 8th at 2:00 pm and the 29th at 1:00 pm.
Chinese New Year Social: We will be celebrating the Year of the Snake on Wednesday the 29th at 3:00 pm. There will be fun ways to make some Goldton dollars while enjoying Chinese New Year drinks and light snacks.
Happy Hour: We will be having our Happy Hour at 1:00 pm on Fridays this month. We have changed the time as a convenience for you. Happy Hour will start right after lunch. On the 2nd Friday of the month, we are changing things a little by having a really fun game hour. A flyer about this event will be coming soon.
Goldton Dollars: This month we are giving away a lot of Goldton Dollars. We have dress-up days, Bingo, and I will be giving out dollars for coming to many activities. Earn 2 Goldton dollars when you join us at… Happy Hour, all Socials, Women’s club, Men’s club, and the MLK Talk Presentation.

New Year's Resolutions

It’s never too late to make a change, try something new, or otherwise enhance an area of your life. Change is hard and a process. Know your “why”. Write down why you want to make a change and do new things. Your motivation has to be important to you, or you are less likely to stick with it. The Golden years here at The Goldton can be a time of adventurous change – and the New Year is the perfect time to embark on a specific change for yourself. Here are a few ideas for an Awesome 2025! 1. Move Joyfully: Daily physical activity helps mind and body. Try our exercise class and walk around the community each day. 2. Make New Friends or Spend More Time with Old Ones: Try writing a letter to old friends who live farther away. Come to our socials and Happy Hour, and spend time talking and getting to know someone you don’t know here at the Goldton.3. Sleep Better: We all feel better when we sleep. Doing exercise and spending time with friends will help with sleep. Also, a sold pre-bedtime routine is the ticket. Limit caffeine, less napping, limit fluids before bed, have the room as dark as possible if not walking around, and reading right before bed is relaxing and calms the brain. 4. Try Something New: This could be something simple or big. Either way, get out of your everyday routine and do something that will make your day a little brighter!

Welcome to Brazil

BRAZIL
Around the World with Atlas

Brazil is the most successful soccer team in history, winning a record five FIFA World Cup titles. Known for its skillful players, creative style, and attacking flair, Brazil has produced legends like Pelé, Ronaldo, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldinho. Its deep passion for the sport and rich talent have made Brazil a dominant force in international soccer.

Christ the Redeemer in Brazil

The Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, was built as a symbol of religious faith, with the idea of a visible representation of Jesus Christ overlooking the city, and was constructed following a proposal in the early 1920s to build a large statue of Jesus on the peak of Mount Corcovado, primarily to inspire a sense of religious renewal in the post-World War I era; the statue was designed by engineer Heitor da Silva Costa and sculpted by French artist Paul Landowski and was finally unveiled on October 12, 1931, after nine years of construction. The idea to build a monument on Mount Corcovado was first proposed by a priest named Pedro Maria Boss in the 1850s, but the project was never approved due to the political and religious climate at the time. Christ the Redeemer stands 98 feet tall, its horizontally outstretched arms span out 92 feet.

Resident of the Month

Paul Lund

Paul Lund was born in Sterling, Illinois where he grew up all of his life. He joined the United States Navy in 1952-1956, where he was a Radioman Second Class Petty Officer. To this day he can still do the Morse code. Dedot! Dedot! He served during the Korean War. After the Navy, he then went on to college at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky where he met his wife of 50 years. Paul worked for Northwestern Steel and Wire Company where he started in the factory and then became an Industrial Engineer and then on to Top Salesman of the company. He retired from Northwestern Steel and Wire and then took a position with Alro Steel in Michigan where he was the Regional Vice President of Sales. Paul then retired and enjoyed his retirement years with his wife while traveling, and playing tennis and golf. He became a HUGE Michigan Fan during his working years and was able to go to all the games at the Big House. GO BLUE! You can find Paul driving around in his Power Chair with a Michigan Flag flying. Paul and his wife have two daughters, two grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. Paul is a member of his church back home in Sterling, IL. And Loves the Lord. He also enjoys spending time outdoors and loves great conversations with people. His oldest daughter lives in Thompson Station and when it was time that Paul needed extra care he decided to move closer to her. Paul’s daughter (DeAnne) looked around for the best places for Paul to live so he could get the care he needed. The Goldton was recommended by others that DeAnne knew in the real estate world. When we went to visit The Goldton, the staff was so friendly and we ended up having lunch with some residents who were so nice to us. Finding The Goldton was a blessing and prayers were answered.
