Associate of the Month

Rochelle Day

Rochelle Day Associate of the Month

Legacy Ridge at Sandy Plains celebrates Rochelle Day as our Associate of the Month. Rochelle is a beloved care partner in our community. She has several years’ experience as a care giver in senior living communities in Cobb County.
Rochelle grew up in St. Louis, Missouri with loving parents. She went to college in St. Louis for accounting. Rochelle spent seven years as a sheet welder and then worked for Aramark for 15 years on the assembly line and as a seamstress.
In 2018 she moved to Cobb County, Georgia to be near her daughter. Aramark offered her a job transfer in Atlanta, but she decided to pursue an opportunity at a senior living community. The rest, as they say is history, it was a perfect fit for her compassion and nurturing care of her residents. She primarily works with our memory care residents but is also an assisted living star.
When you first meet Rochelle, you will immediately notice her ability to connect with her residents, their families, and other Sandy Plains staff. Her true love and compassion for our residents is evident in everything she does each day from singing with the residents to tucking them in bed at night making sure they are comfortable with a fluffed-up pillow. Her advice to staff is to be compassionate with our residents.
Rochelle credits her success to her amazing co-workers and working together as a team to make it happen. Families simply love her and appreciate the loving care she provides for their loved ones. She goes above and beyond to keep the residents engaged with music and dancing.
When she is not working, she enjoys shopping, decorating, vacationing, and most importantly being with family and good friends.
Rochelle’s number one prayer is to be a blessing to her family and others and one of her favorite songs to sing is “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine.”

We thank and applaud you Rochelle for being a blessing to all of us at Legacy Ridge at Sandy Plains and for shining with such beauty and compassion every day. We celebrate you this June as our Associate of the Month.

Hello Wonderful Sandy Plains Community!!
As we are approaching another month so quickly it gives me pleasure to say that I am still excited to be part of such a great group of people. We here at Sandy Plains continue to drive, serve, and give the best customer service and attention to our residence, families and our staff!

We want to thank our staff personally because they’re the ones that are keeping our day-to-day operations running smoothly.

What a great time to be in the beautiful city of Marietta and be connected to one of the leading senior living communities around here.
I would like to share that last month we were honored to have recognized and celebrated our dearest veterans and their spouses.
Thanks to all that participated and supported such a well-deserved honor. It truly brings great pride to know that our services are always aiming to make our community a better place. Until next time let’s enjoy this beautiful month of June.

All the Best,
Cindy Brown

Recipe Spotlight:

Mixed Berry Spinach Salad With Strawberry Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing

Ingredients:
5 ounces Baby Spinach
1 cup Strawberry (sliced)
½ cup Blueberry
½ Red Onion (thinly sliced)
1 Sweet Apple (cored, halved and thinly sliced)
1 cup Candied Walnuts (chopped)
1 cup Strawberry
¼ cup Balsamic Vinegar
¼ cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 tablespoon Dijon Mustard
1 tablespoon Honey
1 clove Garlic (minced)
¼ teaspoon Salt
¼ teaspoon Pepper
⅔ cup Feta Cheese (as desired)

Directions:
For the dressing, push a straw through the strawberries from the tip to the green top to remove the hull. (Or you can cut it off with a knife!) Add the rest of the dressing ingredients. Blend until smooth. Refrigerate. Cut strawberries, apple, and onion into slices.
Combine all the salad ingredients in a large bowl. Drizzle with desired amount of dressing and toss to coat. (Spinach wilts easily, don’t add dressing until ready to eat!) Sprinkle feta cheese on top and serve.

Special Event Celebrating Veterans

Special Event Celebrating Veterans

Sandy Plains Sales and Marketing Director, Krissy York created a beautiful Wall of Honor to recognize our veterans in our community. A special unveiling ceremony was held on Friday, May 24th for residents and their families. Our veterans received a special pin and spouses and families with veterans were honored and celebrated on this special day. If you missed our event, we invite you to come in to see this beautiful Wall of Honor. It is truly an inspiration, and we are grateful to our veterans and their families for their service to our country.

Resident of the Month

Adrian Swanstrom

Adrian Swanstrom Resident of the Month

We salute Adrian Swanstrom as our June Resident of the Month at Legacy Ridge at Sandy Plains.

Adrian and his beautiful wife, Evalee of almost 71 years call Legacy Ridge at Sandy Plains home. They have three daughters, five grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Adrian had a successful career as an insurance adjuster for 35 years. He was named Boss of the Year by the Athens Businesswomen’s Association in the 1970’s. He is also a World War II Veteran and was recently honored at our community when we unveiled our Veteran’s Wall of Honor.

He has a beautiful baritone voice and would sing in church choirs and community choruses. Adrian was an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church, having served as a deacon, Sunday School superintendent and Sunday School Teacher.

He inherited his dad’s woodworking genes and created practical and beautiful pieces. At 80, he built an entire storage building mostly from reclaimed wood with the help of his wife, Evalee.

Adrian’s love of music continues as he enjoys attending all our musical events with his wife, Evalee. He also enjoys a glass of red wine at our monthly Wine Down Wednesday with his daughter and wife. He has always enjoyed gardening and we look forward to him sharing his expertise with us at Sandy Plains this summer.

Thank you, Adrian, for being such a valued and celebrated member of our community at Legacy Ridge at Sandy Plains along with your lovely wife, Evalee.

Congratulations for this well-deserved honor.

We are blessed to have this beautiful, kind, and soft-spoken woman as a member of our community.
