Exercise Class A Big Hit at Sandy Plains

Exercise Class

We incorporate exercise and stretching classes in our activities program at Sandy Plains at Legacy Ridge. The classes are led by Lifestyle Director, Penney Williams and are a popular activity among our residents. There are so many benefits of exercise in older adults. It helps give more energy, greater confidence, improved mobility, strength, and balance. It also improves flexibility and balance, reducing risks of falls.

Resident of the Month

Shirley Mounsey

Legacy Ridge at Sandy Plains Resident of the Month for July is Shirley Mounsey
This July we celebrate our dynamic, smart and fun resident, Shirley Mounsey as our Resident of the Month. Shirley is a self-described “Army Brat” as her father was in the Army, and they traveled all over the country and world. She graduated from high school in Germany and went to college in Missouri.
Eventually she made her way to NYC and was hired at NBC giving tours, worked at Radio City Music Hall, worked as a backstage hand and was a member of the International Association of Stage and Theatre Employees. She met her husband, Duncan while working in TV and Radio. Together they traveled all over the US working at different radio stations.
They bought a ranch in Josephine, Texas. They had 25 cats, 4 horses, 7 dogs and three children, Mac, Darren and Deborah. Shirley lived there until her move to Georgia and Legacy Ridge at Sandy Plains. She is also the author of a book called “Love on Tour”.
Shirley likes the people, staff and activities at Sandy Plains. One of her favorite activities is playing Bingo. She is a wonderful ambassador for our community and always goes out of her way to greet new residents and make them feel at home. It is a pleasure to celebrate such a special lady who calls Legacy Ridge at Sandy Plains home.

From the Executive Director, Cindy Brown

As we approach the first month of Summer, we invite our residents to enjoy the beautiful courtyards and balconies! Sandy Plains has become one of the most enjoyable communities to reside in, due to the warm friendships that have been developed as well as the tasty meals prepared by our very own Chef Joe. As a culture, we will continue to extend a warm welcome to our friends, families and future residents.

Indoor Flower Garden

Our Spirit residents created a beautiful indoor flower garden complete with butterflies with the creative assistance from Amanda from Agape Hospice. Each floral bouquet represents the favorite colors and creativity of our residents. This garden creates a warm welcome for all our guests and a sense of pride for our artists.

Special Visit

Special Visit

We were honored to have a special visit from Wyman Hamilton, Co-Founder, President and COO of Atlas Senior Living. He toured our community with Executive Director, Cindy Brown and Amy Cole, Regional Sales and Marketing Director. Wyman visited with our care staff and shared his appreciation for their work and service. He even drew the winning tickets for our raffle for National Nurses Assistants Week.

Associate of the Month

Bobie Calicutt

Bobie Calicutt Associate of the Month

Legacy Ridge at Sandy Plains Announces Bobie Calicutt
It is with great pleasure we celebrate Bobie Calicut as our July Associate of the Month. Bobie joined our staff in November of 2023 as a Med Tech/CNA and was later promoted to our Scheduler along with her Med Tech/CNA duties. Her passion is helping others. She has worked in the healthcare field for over 20 years, and she is currently pursuing her nursing license.

She moved to Georgia in May of 2022 from St. Louis, Missouri. She has three children, one grandchild and one adopted son, Camron. Bobie is grateful every day for her children and grandchild.
Bobie describes herself as a dedicated worker, loyal, respectful, caring and grateful. She enjoys challenges as they exercise her problem-solving skills. She states, “no matter the task, I’m willing to go above and beyond to help wherever I’m needed, I love my residents and staff as if they are my own family”.

The moment Bobie joined our care team at Legacy Ridge at Sandy Plains we all knew she was someone special with her caring can do attitude toward our residents, fabulous ability to communicate with our families and third-party medical support and enthusiastic teamwork with all our staff. Thank you, Bobie, for being such a beautiful and brilliant member of our community. We know July is your birthday month, we get to celebrate with you every day!

Rochelle grew up in St. Louis, Missouri with loving parents. She went to college in St. Louis for accounting. Rochelle spent seven years as a sheet welder and then worked for Aramark for 15 years on the assembly line and as a seamstress.
In 2018 she moved to Cobb County, Georgia to be near her daughter. Aramark offered her a job transfer in Atlanta, but she decided to pursue an opportunity at a senior living community. The rest, as they say is history, it was a perfect fit for her compassion and nurturing care of her residents. She primarily works with our memory care residents but is also an assisted living star.
When you first meet Rochelle, you will immediately notice her ability to connect with her residents, their families, and other Sandy Plains staff. Her true love and compassion for our residents is evident in everything she does each day from singing with the residents to tucking them in bed at night making sure they are comfortable with a fluffed-up pillow. Her advice to staff is to be compassionate with our residents.
Rochelle credits her success to her amazing co-workers and working together as a team to make it happen. Families simply love her and appreciate the loving care she provides for their loved ones. She goes above and beyond to keep the residents engaged with music and dancing.
When she is not working, she enjoys shopping, decorating, vacationing, and most importantly being with family and good friends.
Rochelle’s number one prayer is to be a blessing to her family and others and one of her favorite songs to sing is “This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine.”

We thank and applaud you Rochelle for being a blessing to all of us at Legacy Ridge at Sandy Plains and for shining with such beauty and compassion every day. We celebrate you this June as our Associate of the Month.
