From France with Love

Alexa, play La Valse d’Amélie, by Yann Tiersen.

Yann Tiersen’s score for
Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain (released in 2001) catapulted him to international fame. “La Valse d’Amélie” is the musical heartbeat of the film — a delicate, spinning waltz that captures the whimsy and warmth of Montmartre. Its bright piano melody feels like a dance through Parisian streets, full of curiosity and gentle magic. Featured throughout the movie, it became one of Yann Tiersen’s most beloved themes and played a major role in earning Amélie its international acclaim.

Welcome to France
Around the World with Atlas

France is a country built on centuries of history, artistry, and revolutionary ideas. From ancient Gaul and the rise of the Frankish kingdoms to the birth of the modern French state, its story is one of transformation. The foundations of France took shape through the coronation of Clovis in the 5th century, the brilliance of Charlemagne’s empire, and the evolution of a nation that would eventually stand at the center of European culture and politics. Over time, France became known not only for its kings and cathedrals but for a spirit of curiosity and change that shaped the world.

French culture has left an indelible mark across the arts, philosophy, cuisine, literature, and fashion. From the Enlightenment thinkers who reimagined human rights to the painters who transformed visual expression — Monet, Renoir, Cézanne, Degas — France has long been a beacon for creativity. Its influence extends into cinema, music, architecture, and the culinary traditions cherished worldwide, from buttery croissants to slow-cooked Coq au Vin. Every corner of French life carries a sense of refinement balanced with a deep appreciation for pleasure, beauty, and daily rituals.

To explore France is to step into a living tapestry of medieval villages, grand boulevards, vineyards, seaside cliffs, and cafés where time seems to slow down. It is a country that invites discovery — whether through the echo of cathedral bells, the quiet glow of a museum hall, or the simple joy of strolling along the Seine. France welcomes visitors not just to see its landmarks but to feel its spirit: a blend of elegance, history, and poetic charm that has captivated the world for centuries.

Resident of the Month

Queen Anne Davis

This month, we are pleased to honor Queen Anne Davis as our Resident of the Month. Born on March 18, 1938, in the small town of Ridgeway, South Carolina, Queen Anne’s life story is deeply rooted in strength, perseverance, and family pride. She grew up in a hardworking household of sharecroppers, where her family labored on land that originally belonged to a doctor. Through dedication and determination, her father was eventually able to purchase land, an achievement that marked a significant milestone for their family.

Queen Anne discovered her passion for learning at an early age, a passion that later blossomed into a remarkable 39-year career as an English teacher. Teaching became her calling, and she devoted her life to educating and inspiring young people. Her love for reading, writing, and connecting with others made her classroom a place where students felt supported and encouraged to grow.

Outside of her professional life, she enjoys quiet moments filled with reading, writing, and singing activities that continue to bring her joy today.

When asked what she loves most about living at Legacy Reserve, Queen Anne shared that the people working here are deeply involved with the residents, making it feel like home. Her warm spirit and appreciation for community brighten our halls each day.

We are proud to celebrate Queen Anne Davis for her rich life story, her dedication to education, and the positivity she brings to Legacy Reserve.

Volunteer Opportunities With Memory Care Residents

This season of giving is a wonderful time to make a meaningful difference in someone’s day. Our Memory Care Facility is seeking volunteers who have patience, compassion, and an understanding of the daily challenges our residents face. Even the smallest acts of connection can brighten their world.

Volunteers can participate in simple but impactful activities, such as playing a familiar game, reading aloud, or simply enjoying a quiet conversation. These moments help reduce feelings of isolation and bring comfort, familiarity, and joy to residents living with memory-related conditions.

If you or someone you know feels called to share time with our Memory Care residents, please contact the Lifestyle Department. Your presence can truly create a moment that matters.

Winter Wellness & Staying Active Indoors

As temperatures drop, staying active and engaged becomes more important than ever. This month, we’re encouraging residents to take advantage of our indoor programs to support both physical and emotional well-being throughout the winter season.

Simple activities like stretching classes, chair yoga, walking clubs, or even joining a game in the activity room can help boost mobility, energy, and mood. Social events—big or small—also play an important role in keeping spirits high during shorter daylight hours.

We invite everyone to explore the December activity calendar and participate in the programs that bring joy, movement, and connection. Let’s stay warm, stay active, and make this winter a vibrant one!

’m originally from Greenville, South Carolina, and one of the things I love most about being part of the Legacy team is the opportunity to connect with our residents on a personal level. Building genuine relationships and becoming a part of their daily lives is something I truly treasure. Every day brings a new story, a new laugh, or a simple moment that reminds me how meaningful this work really is. Getting to know each resident individually learning about their backgrounds, experiences, and personalities makes every day both special and fulfilling.
My favorite part about working here is the time I get to spend with the residents,
whether it’s sharing a conversation over coffee, listening to their life stories, or finding small ways to make their days brighter. Those personal connections remind me why I chose this field in the first place to make a positive difference in people’s lives and to help create a sense of community and belonging. I’m deeply passionate about helping others, focusing on personal growth, and cherishing moments with my loved ones. I believe that life is about connection, compassion, and finding joy in everyday experiences. Outside of work, I love expressing my creativity through crafting with my daughter. It’s one of our favorite ways to spend time together. I also enjoy traveling to new places, exploring different cultures, and making lasting memories with family and friends. Whether I’m on an adventure or enjoying a quiet evening at home, I try to live each day with gratitude and positivityt
