Memory Care Outing to Crews Lake

Residents of our memory care community recently embarked on a charming outing to the Central Pasco and Gulf Railroad, nestled in Crews Lake Park. Amidst nature’s beauty, the serene setting provides the perfect backdrop to an amazing adventure aboard the park’s beloved train.
For our residents outings like these hold profound significance. Beyond mere recreation, they offer precious opportunities for sensory stimulation, reminiscence and connection with the world around them.

As the train chugged along the scenic route we enjoyed sights of towering oaks, blooming flowers and wildlife. Witnessing the enjoyment and engagement during such outings is deeply rewarding and reminds us of the person behind the diagnosis- a person with a lifetime of experiences, passions and emotions that continue to resonate, despite the challenges of memory loss.

Looking ahead, we eagerly anticipate future outings and opportunities for our residents to explore, engage and savor the beauty of the world around them. Whether riding the rails of Crews Lake or simply basking in the warmth of the sun, each experience is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and enduring power of love, laughter and cherished memories.

If you would like to visit the trains at Crews Lake they are open to the public the second Saturday of every month.

Excitement is in the air at The Canopy at Beacon Woods as we gear up for three unforgettable outings!

Our residents have been buzzing with anticipation for the Senior Prom, where they’ll have the opportunity to cheer on their favorite teams at the Trop on April 3rd! Tickets for the game are included, however we remind everyone that while tickets are complimentary, any concessions purchased during the game will be the responsibility of the residents. Additionally, we ask that a $25 cancellation fee will apply for any resident unable to attend without giving 24 hour notice. As of the writing of this article we have three spots left for this trip. Please sign up for this event on the sign up sheet located in the DLV.

On April 17th we will be roadtripping down to the beautiful Sponge Docks with our Memory Care residents, we will sightsee, explore and end the trip with a sweet treat.

On May 2nd we’ll continue the excitement with a trip to the Suncoast Broadway Dinner Theater for lunch and a performance of South Pacific. This all-inclusive outing promises to be an afternoon of enchantment and entertainment. Please RSVP for this event on the sign up sheet located in the DLV.

Embracing Innovation:
Introducing Speak2

Embracing Innovation: Introducing Speak2

In a bid to enhance resident care and foster greater independence, The Canopy at Beacon Woods is excited to introduce state of the art smart home technology. Last month we rolled out Speak2, a smart home device that uses Amazon’s Alexa, and generative AI, created specifically for senior living.

One of the most significant benefits of this technology is its emergency call functionality. Whether they require assistance with a task, feel unwell, or encounter an emergency situation, residents can simply use their voice to summon help, allowing for quicker response times and improved safety throughout the community.

In addition to emergency support, Speak2 provide residents with valuable information about daily activities and menus.

Furthermore, the integration of video communication capabilities enables residents to stay connected with their loved ones like never before. This feature not only combats feelings of isolation but also strengthens social connections and emotional well-being among residents.

The introduction of Speak2 marks an exciting chapter in our commitment to enhancing the quality of life for our residents. By leveraging cutting edge innovation, we are empowering residents to live more independently, stay connected wit their loved ones and enjoy greater peace of mind knowing that help and support are always an “Alexa” away.

Life Stations

Life Stations in Memory Care

In a commitment to providing personalize and enriching experiences for residents in memory care, we are excited to introduce the concept of life stations. These purposeful spaces are designed to evoke memories, spark engagement and promote a sense of familiarity for individuals living with dementia.
One of our newest life stations is a raised garden bed, where residents can reconnect with the therapeutic benefits of gardening. Gardening not only stimulates the senses but also provides a sense of purpose and accomplishment, boosting mood and overall well-being.

Another addition to our memory care environment is a mirrored vanity. The vanity invites residents to indulge in moments of self-care and reminscense.

Looking ahead, we are excited to expand our life stations with the introduction of a tool bench and potting bench. These interactive spaces will provide residents with the opportunity for hands-on exploration and creative expression.

As we embark on this journey of implementing life stations we invite the support and generosity of our residents’ families and friends. Donations of hats, scarves, tools and materials would be greatly appreciated as we strive to create an authentic and stimulating environment that honors each resident’s unique journey and legacy.

If you would like to make a donation please contact Alison at afaiella@TheCanopyAtBeaconWoods.com
