Associate of the Month

Charlotte P.

Charlotte P Associate of the Month

Meet Charlotte, our July Employee of the month! Charlotte has been a valued member of our team since January 17th, and her dedication to caring for our Residents and their families is simply remarkable.
Originally from Saginaw, Michigan, Charlotte made Atlanta her home back in 1991. As a mother to 2 boys and a proud grandmother to 6 grandchildren, she treasures spending time with them at football and basketball games. When she’s not with her grandkids, you can find Charlotte enjoying bowling, tending to her garden, or diving into online billing and coding classes. With a career in the nursing field since the age of 17, Charlotte plans to retire within the next 5 years.

A lover of travel, one of Charlotte’s favorite destinations is Cancun, Mexico, where she immersed herself in the food, fun, and rich culture. Her next dream travel spot? The beautiful islands of Hawaii. An interesting tidbit about Charlotte: she adores cutting and working in her yard, but bugs are a big no-no for her!

When asked about her favorite part of her job, Charlotte revealed, “When I walk into the residents’ room, seeing their smiles and hearing them say they’re glad to have me by their side is truly heartwarming.” Charlotte, we can’t thank you enough for your hard work and unwavering dedication to Legacy Ridge at Brookstone. You are truly appreciated!

A message from our ED

Hudie Langston, Executive Director

Hello Family Members,

I just want to reiterate some points that were emailed to you all this month regarding maintaining a safe and supportive environment for our residents. Your support with the noted request below will be greatly appreciated.

• Personal Hygiene Items (Residents in the Memory Care Community): Items such as hand sanitizer, mouthwash, hairspray, and any cleaning products should be removed from resident rooms. These items can be harmful if ingested or come in contact with the resident eyes. Additionally, sharp items like scissors, razors, tweezers, and nail clippers pose a danger and should be removed.
• Food Items (Residents in the Memory Care Community): Non-perishable food items are welcome. However, perishable items like yogurt, fruits, cookies, candy and cereal should be avoided as they can attract rodents and become contaminated due improper storage, and misplacing. We will remove refrigerators from rooms where residents are unable to maintain proper sanitation and food storage. If you wish to bring items that require refrigeration, please label them with the resident’s name and limit quantities based on their daily and weekly consumption. We will secure and monitor food items in the refrigerator.
• Labeling and Inventory: All clothing and personal items must be labeled with the resident’s name. Additionally, we require an inventory list to be completed and signed by you. This will help us keep track of belongings.
• Prohibited Items: Restraints are not permitted in our community. Beds with side rails, whether half or full, are not allowed. Additionally, recliners that a resident cannot use functionally are considered restraints and will need to be removed from rooms.
If you have any pending concerns that need to be addressed, please feel free to email me at hlangston@legacyridgebrookstone.com or contact me by phone at 770-423-0080.

Sincerely,
Hudie Langston, ED

Social life is crucial for
older adults for several reasons

Social life is crucial for older adults for several reasons

Socialization plays a lot of vital roles in our lives, including fostering relationships, establishing good communication skills, and promoting a sense of community. As we age, the importance of socialization doesn’t wear off — in fact, it only becomes more important for our overall health.
DECREASED DEPRESSION IN SENIORS- Today, social isolation remains one of the leading causes of depression in seniors. Loneliness can easily take its toll on individuals of every age, but there’s a greater concern for older adults as routines and independence change. Seniors also face a bigger risk of loneliness than other age groups after the death of a spouse or close friend. Interacting with others can offer something to look forward to every day while also providing connections that are so important to overall well-being.
IMPROVED COGNITIVE FUNCTION- Multiple studies have linked socialization with improved cognitive function, including a recent one that found that seniors who socialized retained their episodic memory better than groups that didn’t. If you can combine your social gatherings with aerobic exercise, you can boost these benefits further. One study found that aerobic exercise can reduce those instances when you can’t quite find the word you’re trying to say. You’ll also feel happier afterward, thanks to the increase in endorphins that exercise provides. This improved cognitive function can aid in the slowing of memory loss, giving you a sharper mind and more positive experiences.
REDUCED RISK OF DEMENTIA – Socializing can provide several benefits to your physical and mental health. But did you know that connecting with friends and family may also boost your brain health and lower your risk of dementia? This is thought to be made possible through an increase in connections between brain cells, which helps the brain become more resilient in the face of Alzheimer’s. The counter-effect to social isolation also keeps depression at bay, which has been thought to increase dementia.

Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteering is an act of service that not only benefits our community but also nurtures our own personal growth and connections with others. It’s about offering your time, energy, and skills selflessly — contributing towards making the world a better place.
From aiding people in need to supporting environmental initiatives, volunteering spans across a vast array of causes.
If you would like more information on becoming a volunteer for our community, please feel free to reach out to Jamie Hatfield our “Lifestyles Director” and she will give you more information on the next step.

Resident of the Month

Nella W.

Nella Resident of the Month

Meet Nella, our July resident of the month. Nella brings so much joy and laughter to Legacy Ridge at Brookstone, and we couldn’t be happier to have her with us.
Nella was born on October 31st in Atena, TN, which makes her a Halloween baby. She has a sister and a son. whom she cherishes and talks to daily. Nella graduated from Linden High School in 1956, where she briefly played basketball before discovering her passion for cheerleading, which she pursued for seven years. After high school, she got married and had her son, Chris. She met her second husband in the 70’s. Her sister introduced her to Chuck. He was a construction worker who traveled extensively, allowing Nella to visit many exciting places, with Nashville, Tennessee, and the Grand Ole Opry holding a special place in her heart due to their proximity. Nella was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time at home raising her son.

These days, Nella enjoys playing Bingo, shopping, watching Andy Griffith, and taking walks and spreading happiness wherever she goes. Our residents describe Nella as strong, humble, funny, outgoing, and intelligent – qualities that we all admire and appreciate.

Nella, we are truly grateful to have you as a part of our Brookstone Family. Thank you for being such an amazing and wonderful person

Get to know our Business Office Manager

Stacey Wheeler, Business Office Manager | Legacy Ridge at Brookstone

Hello, my name is Stacey Wheeler and I love being part of the team at Legacy Ridge at Brookstone. I began my career in the hospitality industry working for the Hyatt Regency Atlanta and then the JW Marriott at Buckhead. I moved over to managing apartment communities in the multi-family housing industry, where I spent 25 years taking care of the way people live. I have a strong customer service background and moving into my role here was a natural transition and more relaxed. I enjoy being with our residents and playing Bingo with them on weekends when I work.
I grew up in Peachtree City, Georgia and attended Georgia State University. My husband and I have lived in Acworth for the past 20 years. We have two sons and a dog named Beckham, who is spoiled rotten. Life has calmed down a little now that our youngest has his driver’s license and so I spend my free time on my baking business making custom decorated cookies.

• For it to be a thriving community
• A community where residents are provided with dignity and respect.
• A place where employees feel that they are appreciated and recognized for exceptional performance.
• A place where families feel secure with the care that is being provided to their loved ones that are entrusted to our care.
• A place where strategic goals are being achieved.

I enjoy leisure/recreational activities such as working out, reading, spending time with family and friends, sporting events (an Atlanta Falcons fan), musical
