Sounds of Peru
Alexa play "If I could" from "Simon & Garfunkel"
“El Cóndor Pasa” is so iconic that, in 2004, Peru declared it part of the nation’s cultural heritage. The original version is an orchestral piece from the 1913 zarzuela El Cóndor Pasa, composed by Peruvian musician Daniel Alomía Robles and inspired by traditional Andean music.
The most internationally recognized version is “El Cóndor Pasa (If I Could)” by Simon & Garfunkel, released in 1970 on their album Bridge over Troubled Water. Among hundreds of officially recognized adaptations, this rendition introduced the song to a global audience.

History of Juneteenth
Juneteenth is a holiday that celebrates the day when the last enslaved people in the United States were finally told they were free. Even though slavery had officially ended, some people in Texas didn’t know. On June 19, 1865, a group of soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, to let them know they were free. That’s why it’s called Juneteenth—short for June Nineteenth.

It’s home to ancient civilizations, awe-inspiring landscapes, and cultural traditions that still pulse with life today.

🦙 Amazing Facts about Peru
Machu Picchu Is One of the New Seven Wonders of the World
Built in the 15th century by the Incas and rediscovered in 1911, this mountaintop citadel is Peru’s most iconic site—and a breathtaking symbol of human ingenuity.
What is flag day?
Flag Day is a day to celebrate the American flag. It happens every year on June 14 because that’s the day in 1777 when the U.S. decided what the flag would look like. On Flag Day, people remember what the flag stands for—freedom, unity, and the country. Some places have parades or raise the flag to show pride in the United States.
Alpacas in Peru
People in Peru have been raising alpacas for thousands of years. Because their wool is super soft, warm, and not itchy like regular sheep wool. It’s used to make sweaters, scarves, blankets, and all kinds of cozy stuff. Fancy alpaca wool is even called “baby alpaca” when it’s extra soft —just the first shearing).
