One of the most enduring symbols in the United States is the bald eagle—a majestic bird chosen in 1782 as the national emblem.

With its fierce gaze and powerful wingspan, the bald eagle represents strength, courage, and the soaring ideals of liberty that define the American identity.

Getting Involved in Activity's

As we age, staying active both physically and socially becomes more important than ever. For seniors, participating in activities isn’t just a way to pass the time; it plays a crucial role in maintaining physical health, mental sharpness, and emotional well-being.

Engaging in activities such as walking, gardening, dancing, or joining a club helps improve mobility, balance, and strength, which are key to preventing falls and staying independent. Beyond the physical benefits, regular social interaction combats loneliness and depression, which are common concerns among older adults. Mental stimulation from learning new skills or hobbies can even slow cognitive decline.

Being involved also helps seniors feel a sense of purpose and connection to their communities. Whether it’s volunteering, joining a book club, or attending local events, staying engaged can bring joy and boost overall quality of life.

In short, active seniors tend to be healthier, happier, and more fulfilled. Encouraging participation in enjoyable and meaningful activities is one of the best ways to support healthy aging.

Welcome to the United States of America

From towering skyscraper cities to serene national parks, from the sounds of jazz and rhythm & blues to the electrifying pulse of rock & roll, the U.S. radiates a restless energy that has left a lasting cultural impact around the globe.

More than a global superpower in terms of industrial influence and technological innovation, the United States is also a leading force in the arts and cultural development. Resident of the Month

Fred Graham

Congratulations to Fred !!

I’m originally from Conway, South Carolina. In my free time, I enjoy riding bikes, working out, and spending time with my fellow veterans here at Legacy. The bond we share means a lot to me, and it’s great to be around people who understand and support one another.

One of my favorite parts about living at Legacy is going on outings it’s always something I look forward to. Whether it’s a trip out or just a good conversation, I enjoy staying active and involved. I also really appreciate the great food here, and I have to give a special thanks to the kind staff who take such good care of me. Being chosen as Resident of the Month is an honor, and I’m grateful to be part of a community that feels like home.

Dementia Awareness

Raising awareness about dementia helps reduce stigma, encourage early diagnosis, and provide support for those living with the condition. Understanding the signs of dementia such as memory loss, confusion, difficulty completing familiar tasks, or changes in mood can help family members and caregivers provide the right care and support. Creating a dementia-friendly environment is key. This includes simplifying tasks, offering gentle reminders, and being patient. Compassionate communication, using clear and simple language, can also make a significant difference. Community support is essential for both individuals with dementia and their caregivers. Helping, joining support groups, and fostering inclusivity can help reduce feelings of isolation. By educating ourselves and others, we can make a positive impact on the lives of those affected by dementia, ensuring they feel understood, supported, and valued.

Recipe Spotlight:

Sheet-Pan Salmon & Shaved Brussels Sprouts with Lemon-Garlic Drizzle

Salmon & Shaved Brussels

These are the key tips we learned while developing and testing this recipe in our Test Kitchen to make sure it works, tastes great and is good for you too!

You can purchase pre-shaved Brussels sprouts to save time, but the slices may be quite thick. If you prefer thinner sprouts, it’s best to shave them yourself. A mandoline would work well if you have one.
When you shave or slice the sprouts lengthwise, you reduce waste since you won’t discard the last bit of the stem, which often happens when slicing them crosswise.
Although the baking sheet may look crowded, the Brussels sprouts actually need some steam to cook properly and avoid burning. This will still allow them to develop a nice, roasty char.
Nutrition Notes
Salmon is loaded with omega-3s, a type of healthy fat most of us need more of for overall good health and disease prevention. It’s also a great protein source and even has antioxidants, hence its orangey-pink color. Some types of salmon, like sockeye, are a good source of vitamin D.
Brussels sprouts bring gut-friendly fiber to this dish. They’re also linked to reduced cancer risk and type 2 diabetes risk.
Lemons pack a vitamin C punch, which is great for strengthening your immune system and giving your skin a healthy glow.
Garlic is another supporter of immunity. Regularly eating garlic has also been linked with healthier cholesterol levels, blood pressure and blood sugar levels.

Ingredients
2 lemons
6 cloves garlic
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves or ½ teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon ground pepper
¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper (optional)
4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
1 pound Brussels sprouts, trimmed and thinly shaved (about 6 cups)

1 shallot, thinly sliced (about ¼ cup)

4 (6-ounce) skin-on salmon fillets

½ teaspoon salt plus ⅛ teaspoon, divided

Sohpie Rollins

Congratulations to Sophie Rollins

I’m originally from Fountain Inn, South Carolina. Outside of work, I enjoy doing makeup, painting, and spending time with my adorable guinea pig, Chanel—she definitely keeps life interesting!

Working at Fairview has truly been a blessing. The residents are some of the kindest, most wonderful people I’ve ever met, and being part of their daily lives brings me so much joy. They feel like family to me, and it’s an honor to care for them. I’m also incredibly grateful for my coworkers. We support one another like a true team, and that makes coming to work every day something I genuinely look forward to.

Fairview has given me so many opportunities to grow, both personally and professionally. I’m proud to be part of a place that values compassion, teamwork, and dedication. This job has been so good to me, and I’m thankful for the chance to give back to the people and community that mean so much to me.
