Katlyn Fitzgerald

Katlyn Fitzgerald, Sales Counselor | The Oscar at Georgetown

We’re delighted to announce Katlyn as The Oscar at Georgetown’s Associate of the Month! Katlyn’s passion for senior living shines through everything she does, making her a true asset to our community.
While her youthful energy might surprise some, Katlyn boasts a remarkable career dedicated to enriching the lives of seniors. From graduating Magna Cum Laude with a focus on Long Term Care Administration to her experience in nursing homes and home health agencies, her expertise is undeniable.
But it was the vibrant spirit of senior living communities that truly captured her heart. Starting in operations, Katlyn’s infectious enthusiasm soon landed her a spot in Sales & Marketing. Whether it was her genuine smile (or perhaps those dimples!), she thrived on connecting with future residents and helping them envision a fulfilling future at The Oscar.
However, life took an exciting turn when her high school sweetheart received a job offer in Austin. Determined to find a community that mirrored her own values, Katlyn discovered The Oscar at Georgetown. Atlas Senior Living’s dedication to exceptional senior living resonated deeply, and she knew she’d found her new home (professionally, at least!).

Resident of the Month

Mary Pepin

This month, we’d like to shine a spotlight on our very own Mary Pepin! Mary’s journey is a testament to resilience, family love, and a zest for life.
Born in Colchester, Vermont, Mary grew up in a close-knit family in the small town of Winooski. Responsibility came early for Mary, as she left school at 15 to help care for her younger siblings. Despite this, Mary’s determination shone through. She landed a typing job at a children’s home, showcasing her resourcefulness and work ethic.

Life offered both joy and challenge for Mary. She met her husband Gerry through a mutual friend, and they were married in 1955. Together, they raised a son and enjoyed adventures like camping trips and square dancing. Mary’s career path was impressive, working at the children’s center for 26 years before transitioning to IBM for another 17 years.

In 1980, Mary and Gerry made the exciting move to Texas, seeking a warmer climate. Here, Mary continued to work, spending time with her grandson Andrew, who became a cherished part of their lives.

Mary’s story is one of unwavering love for family. She speaks fondly of her husband Gerry, who passed away last year. Their 68 years of marriage were filled with love, support, and shared experiences. From remodeling houses in Vermont to enjoying a fleet of over 60 cars together, Gerry’s love for Mary is evident.

Today, Mary embraces life at our community. Her positive spirit and willingness to share her remarkable story are an inspiration to all of us.

We are so grateful to have Mary as part of our community!

Arches

Double O Arch

The second largest arch within the Devils Garden area. As the name implies, there are two arches here, one large, with a
span of 71 feet, stacked atop a much smaller arch with a 21-foot span. It was formed by downward water erosion from atop the sandstone, rather than from side-to-side water erosion.

Recipe Spotlight:

Layered Fruit & Shrimp Salad

Ingredients:
2 cups watermelon balls
2 cups cantaloupe balls
2 cups honeydew balls
2 cups sliced peaches
2 cups sliced pears
2 cups quartered orange sections
2 cups sliced plums
1 cup fresh blueberries
1 cup fresh strawberries
1 cup cubed pineapple
2 dozen (21-25) count boiled shrimp
2 cups crawfish tails
1 recipe fruity yogurt dressing
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions:

In a large glass serving bowl, layer fruit by alternating stratas of color. Once all the fruit has been layered, line shrimp and crawfish in a decorative pattern around the edge of the bowl. Top with fruity yogurt dressing and toss the mixture to blend the dressing into the fruit. Sprinkle with pecans and serve immediately.

Fruit is not just for dessert anymore! With its wide range of colors and textures, nothing makes a more beautiful entree salad than layers of fresh or canned fruit. Why not create an interesting and unique summer salad by combining colorful, healthful fruit with fresh shrimp or other seafood?
