It's almost time!

The Pool has been filled! Room numbers are being put on the doors and the process of final touch ups and cleaning has begun in resident apartments! It is so exciting to see the progress each week as we get close to opening. Our Maintenance Director Gabriel has been hard at work with the construction crew on site, helping to move things along and learn the building inside and out.

Chef David has been selecting and ordering the plates, glassware, silverware and multitude of other items required for our three dining options The Treaty Oak Bistro, The Poppy Restaurant, and the Carlton’s Sports Bar. Lifestyles Director, Heather, has been compiling her list for programming supplies and already started gathering Patrons for a Book Club, a Knitting Group, and surveying Patrons so that activities are customized to the preferences of our residents.

Academy Program

The Oscar is coming to life before our eyes and will soon be filled with the sounds of residents enjoying a carefree lifestyle with wonderful amenities, and excellent customer service. If you are reading this, and not already a Patron, give our wonderful Sales Team a call. You will be glad you did!

Happy Holidays

Holiday Traditions

What are your favorite holiday traditions? They weave a tapestry of warmth, nostalgia, and togetherness that binds families and communities across the globe. From the hanging of stockings by the fireplace to the anticipation of Santa’s arrival, Christmas traditions connect generations, bridging the past and present.

Whether it’s the crackling warmth of a Yule log or the sweet scent of gingerbread, these customs form the heart of the holiday, infusing the season with joy, unity, and the magic of shared celebrations. So, whatever your family tradition is, enjoy it with your loved ones. The memories made are there for a lifetime. The Oscar team wishes you all a very safe and happy holiday season!

Classic Christmas Movies

Holiday Classics

The holiday season wouldn’t be complete without the timeless tradition of watching Christmas movies that capture the spirit of joy, family, and goodwill. At the top of the list is Frank Capra’s 1946 classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” a heartwarming tale that has resonated for generations with its message of redemption and the impact one person can have on others.

No discussion of Christmas movies is complete without mentioning the perennial favorite, “A Christmas Carol.” While there have been numerous adaptations, the 1984 version starring George C. Scott as Ebenezer Scrooge remains a standout for its faithful portrayal of Charles Dickens’ iconic story.

For those seeking a bit of nostalgia, “Home Alone” (1990) is a must-watch, blending humor and heartfelt moments as young Kevin McCallister defends his home from burglars during the holiday season. The charming “Elf” (2003), starring Will Ferrell, has also become a modern classic, bringing laughter and warmth to audiences with its tale of Buddy, a human raised by elves, discovering his true identity in New York City.

More recent entries, such as “Love Actually” (2003) and “The Polar Express” (2004), have carved out their places in the pantheon of beloved Christmas films. Whether it’s the enduring classics or contemporary favorites, these movies continue to enchant viewers and kindle the festive spirit each holiday season.

Thinking BIG

Thinking BIG

The Oscar’s leadership eagerly anticipates our monthly Patron events, providing a platform to share excitement about The Oscar, connect with future residents, and welcome new members. November’s event, held at BIG (Brookwood in Georgetown), offered an opportunity to support a worthy cause and explore this special vocational community.

During my visit to inquire about hosting our event, Operations Director Josh Parker graciously toured me behind the scenes, showcasing where pies were being prepped for the on-site café. Learning about how BIG citizens craft pies and gift shop items, and seeing the converted greenhouse transformed into a cozy space for gatherings, affirmed that this was the ideal location for our November event. BIG provided a beautifully decorated setting, an array of fantastic pies, and a warm welcome, creating a perfect pre-Thanksgiving gathering.

BIG is a God-centered vocational community empowering adults with functional disabilities to become artisans, bakers, gardeners, and more. As a non-profit, 100% of proceeds contribute to creating a brighter future for adults with special needs. If you are looking for a unique gift to give someone for Christmas or a special occasion, or need a place to stop in for a bite to eat (Mon-Sat 8am-2:30) you can’t go wrong with BIG. They also accept pie orders, and we can personally vouch for their deliciousness!

Katlyn Fitzgerald

Katlyn Fitzgerald, Sales Counselor | The Oscar at Georgetown

They say to do what makes your heartbeat faster and that couldn’t be more true for my NEW role as a Sales Counselor with The Oscar at Georgetown. I am in my 20s but my entire career has been in senior living! I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors of Science in Long Term Care Administration where I was honored to be the Student Ambassador for the College of Aging Studies, did my Nursing home Administrator in Training, and even studied with the Byrd Alzeimer’s Institute.

I am no stranger to the different avenues of senior living and have worked in a nursing home, home health agency, and then my heart was forever changed when I found the vibrant life that a senior living community could offer! I started out in operations and was quickly pulled into the Sales & Marketing office to share with prospects why aging in place with a community was so great…or maybe I was called in just because I had dimples. Who knows!

I had so much fun learning from the sales team and meeting people as they became our new residents; my heart couldn’t be any fuller. Then my high school sweetheart came home one day with a job offer from Apple and said, “Hey, what do you think about moving to Austin?”

I didn’t know if I could find another community that was as dedicated to their residents, had inspiring yet down to Earth leadership, and strived towards the mission of offering the BEST standard of living to seniors. Then I found The Oscar at Georgetown with Atlas Senior Living and knew I wanted to part of this new standard they were setting. I am thrilled to be your new sales counselor and I cannot wait for all the friendships I am going to build here. Please reach out to say hello! Also, any advise on new married life would be great as well; as I married my, “corn muffin” in April of this year and though I love him…he still cannot load the dishwasher correctly. Any tips would be appreciated.
