Exploring Our National Parks

Madison at Oviedo is taking a journey through the national parks system in 2024 as part of our life enrichment programs. Each month we will focus on a different national park, learning what makes the park special, and discussing our personal travel adventures. For January we are virtually visiting the Great Smoky Mountains National Park!

Our community enjoyed celebrating with friends and family throughout the month of December including our amazing dessert social with entertainment. New Year's Resolutions

New Years Resolution

Another year has come and gone, which means it’s time to create intentions for the new year. There is no better time than the present to take inventory of the health resolutions to better care for your well-being in 2024. You can be a proactive participant in your health and wellness to make 2024 your healthiest year yet. Here are some simple suggestions:

1. Stay Active – Aim to move at least 30 minutes each day.2. Hydration – Drink water with every meal.3. Healthy Eating – Cut back or eliminate sugars.4. Rest – Get enough sleep by creating bedtime routines for relaxing.5. Stay Well – Wash hands frequently to avoid germs.6. Feel Good – Smile more, smiling is a free and fun way to instantly boost your mood!

This month our Resident Spotlight for January is Bonny Parker. Bonny worked in Public School Food Service for many years. Bonny is a very happy and outgoing person. Here at Madison, you can catch Bonny walking around the neighborhood, talking or dancing with friends. Bonny is a joy and a ray of sunshine in our community. We are pleased to present Bonny with Resident Spotlight for January.

Congratulations to Daniel for being selected at Madison at Oviedo’s Employee of the month for January. Daniel has been in the healthcare field for 2 years. Daniel is very dependable and passionate towards our residents. We’d like to take a moment to acknowledge your hard work and let you know we are impressed by your performance. You play a key role in our facility and we are thankful to have someone like you on our team. When Daniel isn’t at work you can find him at the gym, modeling or watching movies with his mom. Daniel has 3 chihuahua’s that he loves very much. Congratulations on your outstanding work. Thank you for doing you very best every day!

January Recipe Spotlight:

Bailey's S'mores Floats

Bailey's S'mores Floats

(Serves 4) – Recipe from Delish

Ingredients:

.25 cup melted chocolate
.5 cup crushed graham crackers, plus more for garnish
1 pint vanilla ice cream
4 cups chocolate milk
8 large marshmallows
Chocolate syrup, for drizzling

Directions:

Preheat broiler. Place marshmallows on a small baking sheet and broil until golden on top, about 4 minutes.

In a small dish, pour melted chocolate. In another small dish, pour crushed graham crackers. Dip glasses into chocolate sauce to rim the mugs, then dip in crushed graham crackers.

Scoop ice cream into each glass, then pour chocolate milk on top and add a splash of Baileys. Top each float with two marshmallows, then drizzle with chocolate syrup and sprinkle with more crushed graham crackers. Serve immediately.

Directions:

1. Line baking sheet with waxed paper. Set aside.2. On medium-high power, microwave morsels in medium, microwave- safebowl for 1 minute; stir. (Note: You might find that adding vegetable oil willcreate a smoother mixture.)3. Microwave every 10 to 20 seconds, stirring until smooth.4. Place peppermint candies in heavy-duty plastic bag. Crush candies usingrolling pin.5. Hold a strainer over the melted morsels. Pour crushed candy into strainer.6. Shake to release small candy pieces while reserving the larger candypieces. Stir peppermint morsel mixture.7. Spread mixture to desired thickness on prepared baking sheet. Sprinklewith larger, reserved candy pieces; press in lightly.8. Let stand for about 1 hour or until firm. Break into pieces. Store in airtightcontainer at room temperature.Makes 1 pound
