Welcome to Australia
Around the World with Atlas
Australia, the world’s largest island and smallest continent, is a land of striking contrasts—from its vast deserts and tropical rainforests to its bustling coastal cities. Indigenous Australians have lived on the continent for over 60,000 years, developing rich spiritual traditions and deep connections to the land. Their art, music, and stories remain an essential part of the nation’s cultural identity today.
European settlement began in 1788 with the arrival of the First Fleet from Britain, marking the start of Australia’s colonial era. British influence shaped the nation’s language, institutions, and political systems, though this period also brought immense hardship to Indigenous communities. Over time, Australia evolved from a collection of colonies into a unified federation in 1901, forging its own democratic and multicultural identity.
Modern Australia is known for its relaxed lifestyle, love of the outdoors, and vibrant cultural mix. From iconic landmarks like the Sydney Opera House and Uluru to its world-class art, music, and sport, the country reflects both its ancient heritage and modern dynamism—a place where tradition and innovation coexist under the southern sun.
Thanksgiving
Can you believe we are heading into our holiday season? Have you and your family made plans for Thanksgiving? If not, there is still time to join your Madison at Clermont family for Thanksgiving. Our dinner will take place on November 27, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. in our dining room. We will have a full buffet for $25 per family member. All residents eat free. Please contact Paula at the front desk or email her at concierge@madisonatclermont.com or call 352-717-8131. We ask all residents to please speak with Paula to let us know if you will attend here at Madison or go home with family.
Messiah Concert
Have you been to the Messiah concert? If not, you should go this year! It has become an annual tradition that the residents love to attend. Messiah is an English-language oratorio composed in 1741 by George Frideric Handel. The text was compiled from the King James Bible and the Coverdale Psalter by Charles Jennens. It was first performed in Dublin on 13 April 1742 and received its London premiere a year later. After an initially modest public reception, the oratorio gained in popularity, eventually becoming one of the best-known and most frequently performed choral works in Western music. We will attend this year’s Messiah on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 7 p.m. Please sign up at the front desk if you would like to attend.
