What’s the Secret to Turning 100 with Style? Staying curious, sharing love, and always having a great story to tell (just ask Jerome).
On April 18, something magical happened at Madison at Clermont — and no, it wasn’t just the cake (though that was delicious). Our community had the honor of celebrating Jerome Rosenberg’s 100th birthday, and what a celebration it was!
Jerome was born in 1925 in Boston — the same year the Chrysler Corporation was founded and The Great Gatsby hit bookstores. Since then, he’s lived through 17 U.S. presidents, two wars (he served in both WWII and Korea working on aircraft systems), and a love story for the ages. He and his wife are just months away from celebrating 78 years of marriage. That’s nearly eight decades of commitment, laughter, and probably a few shared slices of cheesecake

The party brought together friends, family, residents, and even the Mayor of Clermont, who presented Jerome with an official proclamation to honor his remarkable life. But it wasn’t just about speeches and applause — it was about presence. Jerome’s three children, twelve grandchildren, and an entire room full of admirers came together to toast a man who still believes in moving, learning, and laughing every single day.
And he’s not slowing down. He plays golf, loves music, and reminds everyone around him to “exercise three times a week” and “never stop growing your mind.” In his words:
“We grow old too soon and smart too late.”
(He’s clearly working on fixing that.)
If you’ve ever wondered what helps someone reach 100, science backs a few things Jerome lives by:
💡 Staying mentally curious
💪 Staying physically active
❤️ Staying connected to others
Studies show that people in senior living communities who engage socially live longer and healthier lives — with some data pointing to up to 50% lower risk of dementia and even increased life expectancy by several years (NIH, CDC).
So yes, turning 100 is impressive. But being 100 and still cracking jokes, giving advice, and inspiring everyone around you? That’s legendary.
Come visit Madison at Clermont and meet Jerome — and while you’re at it, get to know the rest of our incredible residents. You might just make a friend for life (or even a few lifetimes).
