If you were born between December 1–21,
you are Sagittarius, the Archer. Archers are optimistic, energetic, generous, and honest. They enjoy exploration and keep an open mind during new encounters. Those born between December 22–31 are Capricorns, the Goat. Capricorns are the most stable and serious signs of the zodiac. Reliable, resourceful,
and determined, they make excellent leaders and managers.
Associate of the Month
Luciana
Luciana, our inspiring December Employee of the Month, was born in Haiti and later thrived in Massachusetts and New York. She graduated from South Boston High, married Sven, and together they nurtured three high-achieving children: two accomplished graduates and one diligent student. Notably, one child excels alongside her at Legacy Ridge at Brookstone as a CNA.
Luciana’s most cherished vacation was her trip to Sweden, where she accumulated numerous memories. Her preferred leisure activities include watching television and spending time in her backyard with her husband and children. The top three experiences on her bucket list are visiting Jerusalem, Niagara Falls, and going bungee jumping. If Luciana could dine with anyone, who would it be and why? She cited Princess Diana and Mother Teresa, citing their dedication and selflessness as inspirations to excel
As a Legacy Ridge at Brookstone associate, she commits to nurturing a supportive environment through attentive listening, compassionate assistance, and uplifting presence, propelling her own growth through continued education.
Luciana, you’re the ultimate rockstar of Legacy Ridge at Brookstone! Heartfelt thanks for consistently exceeding expectations and spreading joy to our residents and staff.

Calling All Bingo Lovers
Bingo is celebrated throughout December in church halls and community centers because December is Bingo Month. The game dates all the way back to 1530, when Italians played a game called Lo Gioco del Lotto d’Italia. Some even say that this game was used to fight government corruption. Instead of winning a pot of money, those holding winning numbers were elected as local leaders.
The French first introduced a playing card full of numbers. Then in the 1800s, the Germans used the game as a tool to teach children math and spelling. It first appeared in America in 1929 at a carnival near Atlanta, Georgia, where it was called “Beano.” When an excited winner shouted out the word bingo by mistake, an entrepreneur named Edwin S. Lowe overheard the faux pas, renamed the game, and employed a Columbia University mathematician named Carl Leffler to create 6,000 randomly numbered bingo cards. Leffler purportedly went insane from the task. A Catholic priest asked Lowe to show him the game as a way of raising money for the church. Bingo has been a church hall mainstay ever since.

Recipe Spotlight:
Traditional Scones
Ingredients:
1 Egg
2 heaped teaspoons – Baking Powder
25 grams – Caster Sugar
1 heaped teaspoon – Vanilla Sugar (or caster sugar)
25 grams – Vegetable Shortening (or lard)
500 grams – Plain Flour
1 teaspoon – Salt (fine)
50 grams – Butter (unsalted)
250 milliliters – Heavy Whipping Cream (or double cream)
250 milliliters – Full Cream Milk
1 tablespoon – Milk
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 220°C (430°F) and place a baking tray inside to warm. Mix flour, salt, sugar, and baking powder in a bowl. Add butter and lard (or shortening), blending until it resembles damp sand. Gradually add milk, mixing until the dough just comes together. Avoid overworking the dough.
Roll the dough on a floured surface to about 3 cm (1 inch) thick. Cut scones with a round cutter, reshaping the dough gently if needed. Place scones close together on a baking tray. Brush with egg wash (beaten egg and milk). Bake for 10-15 minutes until golden. Check doneness with a thermometer (center should reach 85°C/185°F). Serve warm or at room temperature with Chantilly cream and strawberry jam.
Chantilly Cream: Whisk cream and sugar until soft peaks form.
Resident of the Month
Marjorie W
Meet Marjorie W., December’s resident of the month! Born in Lineville, Alabama, she graduated high school and later moved to Georgia for a promising phone company job. Living with brother Gary and wife Sandra, Marjorie shines with six siblings!
Marjorie has one daughter, Dawne, who was born in a car and one son who her dad helped deliver in two stepsons. She has four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. When asked about memories from her childhood She said some of her favorites was helping her mom cook so and clean playing with her brothers Tony was her favorite brother because he would not argue with her. She also remembers the dogs outside taking down her mom’s clean laundry from the clothesline. She said it was funny until she had to go back out and help her mom hang them all back up.
Her notable successes encompass graduating, raising her children, and partnering with telephone pioneers and Operation Christmas Child. Israel and Hawaii hold sentimental value as her beloved travel spots. Her special skill is expertly playing the piano.
Marjorie’s enthusiasm for life shines through in her hobbies at Legacy Ridge at Brookstone: cooking, walking, reading her Bible, and playing bingo. Her generosity and warmth inspire us all. Thank you, Marjorie, for your unwavering kindness!
