Associate of the Month

Joshua O.

Meet Joshua O, our shining star of the month! Born and raised in Nymeria, Kenya, Joshua brings a ray of sunshine to our team. He relocated to Georgia on March 14th, 2024, and his journey to success began! Joshua’s passion for education led him to pursue a bachelor’s degree in education from Kenyatta University, where he balanced his studies with his love for soccer. His dedication and perseverance are an inspiration to us all!

With his bachelor’s degree in education in hand, he courageously embarked on a journey to empower young minds as a high school teacher, positively impacting three different schools. Reflecting on his accomplishments, Joshua expressed gratitude for achieving his long-held dream in Kenya and celebrated the transformative power of migrating to America, where he has been blessed with numerous opportunities for growth and self-actualization.

When Joshua isn’t working, he’s living his best life! Whether he’s scoring goals on the soccer field, binge-watching ‘Game of Thrones’, rooting for his beloved Liverpool football club, or hitting the books for his nursing diploma, this guy is an inspiration! His dedication to making our residents happy at Legacy Ridge at Brookstone is truly remarkable. Keep being you, Joshua!

A message from your Executive Director

Hudie Langston, Executive Director

Greetings Family Members,
I’m excited to inform you all that I have started my own 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. The name of my non-profit organization is Langston’s Love. Its purpose/mission is to provide those in need with the basic necessities of life such as undergarments and hygienic products.

My targeted audiences are the homeless, women and men shelters, orphanages, nursing homes, personal care homes, titles 1 schools and churches that support those in need. Atlas Senior Living, Legacy Ridge at Brookstone’s parent company has agreed to sponsor my non-profit organization. With that being said, Legacy Ridge at Brookstone is partnering with Langston’s Love to collect donations (T-shirts, underwear, socks and bras) for the children that reside at Christian City Children’s Village. A donation station will be setup by the concierge desk to drop off items. Your participation with this project will be greatly appreciated! If interested in making a donation to my non-profit organization, my website is langstonslove.org and you can follow me on Instagram at langstons.love.

If you have any pending concerns that need to be addressed, please feel free to email me at hlangston@legacyridgebrookstone.com or contact me by phone at 770-423-0080.

Sincerely,
Hudie Langston, ED

The Golden Age

August 21 is Senior Citizens Day, a day to recognize the importance of seniors and support them in their endeavors as they age. August 14 marks another significant day for older generations—Social Security Day, a day honoring FDR’s signing of the Social Security Act into law in 1935.

We should honor our seniors all year long, not just in August, but what makes this demographic so special? For one, there are a lot of them—over 62 million in America, or about 18 percent of the population. And research shows that seniors are more satisfied than the young. Perhaps it comes from a confidence born of living through the Great Depression and WWII. It may be that seniors finally have time to focus on enjoying the present rather than worry about the future. This might be the most valuable lesson we can learn from our senior friends!

Angel For a Day

The clouds may part and a radiant light shine down on someone you know on August 22, Be an Angel Day. The word angel comes zfrom the Greek word anglos, which means “messenger.” Many people believe that angels do exist, acting as messengers of God, and the Catholic Church has documented over 490,000 specific angels of nine different types: seraphim, cherubim, thrones, dominions, virtues, powers, principalities, archangels, and angels. Angels also figure prominently in Judaism and Islam.

How can we emulate angels here on terra firma? Perhaps we, too, can be messengers of truth, justice, and love. Another way is to be a guardian angel, a selfless defender of those who cannot defend themselves, a guide and protector of those who have lost their way. A more modern twist is to become an angel investor. These investors offer money or capital for a promising business venture. While it may be impossible to embody the characteristics of a heavenly angel, Be an Angel Day can still inspire us to be better people

If you were born between August 1–22, you are a Leo, the Lion. Creative and ambitious with a magnetic personality, Leos enjoy the spotlight. Warm, loving, and kind, they make loyal and honorable friends. Those Born between August 23–31 are Virgos. Virgos are considered shy and sometimes naïve, private, and tidy. They are curious explorers who are incredibly loyal and well respected by their friends and colleagues.

Resident of the Month

Brenda G

Meet Brenda G., our August Resident of the Month! Brenda has a rich history, having been born and raised in Acworth, Georgia alongside her 2 sisters and 2 brothers. She graduated from Northside High School in 1960, where she excelled in varsity basketball for 4 years. Brenda found love early on, marrying her high school sweetheart, Jerry. Together, they have 3 beautiful daughters – Julie, Marla, and Angela.

Throughout her career, Brenda worked at Acworth Beach House serving refreshments and enjoying sock hops with friends. In 2004, she retired after working at Georgia Marble Travelers Insurance and Southwest Bank. Now, Brenda spends her time with her grandchildren Tara and Taylor, as well as her great-grandson Cooper. She enjoys watching classic TV shows like “All in the Family” and “Sonny and Cher,” but her true passion lies in supporting her favorite team, the Atlanta Braves. Brenda loves to dance and have a great time with her loved ones.

Two fond memories Brenda cherishes from her younger years include her father returning home from the military, with his uniform captivating her, and a trip to New York City to visit her sister. Brenda’s zest for life and joy in spending time with family makes her a beloved member of our community.

Brenda, thank you for embodying kindness, helpfulness, and fun! On behalf of all of us at Legacy Ridge at Brookstone, we congratulate you on being selected as the August Resident of the Month. Your vibrant spirit and positive presence brighten our community, and we are grateful to have you as part of our family. Cheers to you, Brenda, and all the joy you bring to those around you!
