Associate of the Month

Lexie Payne

Lexi Payne Associate of the Month

Since joining The Oscar in March 2024, Lexie has made a remarkable impact on both residents and staff. Her enthusiasm for working with seniors and helping others is what initially attracted her to The Oscar. “I enjoy the thrill of meeting new people and welcoming them to their new home.”
When asked about her proudest achievement at The Oscar, Lexie emphasizes her commitment to forming strong connections: “If I can make one person happy during my shift, then I feel fulfilled.” This dedication to spreading joy among residents is clear in her willingness to go above and beyond her responsibilities—whether it’s visiting residents in the hospital during her own time or participating in events even when she’s not scheduled.
Lexie remains motivated by surrounding herself with knowledgeable colleagues and discovering small things that inspire her. While challenges are part of any job, her positive outlook and eagerness to improve enable her to navigate them successfully.
She greatly values a clean, inviting work environment and enjoys the fun interactions with her coworkers each day. In her spare time, Lexie loves helping others, tending to her garden, and socializing, all of which reflect her caring personality both at work and beyond. When balancing her personal and professional life, she takes a thoughtful and careful approach to ensure she remains engaged in both areas.
We are truly thankful to have someone as devoted and compassionate as Lexie in The Oscar family. Thank you for everything you do!

• The Tetons are Younger: While the surrounding mountains are millions of years old, the Teton Range is relatively young, forming only about 10 million years ago.
• A Volcanic Past: The Tetons were formed by volcanic activity, with magma pushing up through the Earth’s crust. Over time, erosion carved the peaks into their dramatic shapes.
• A Wildlife Haven: Grand Teton is home to a variety of wildlife, including elk, moose, bison, and even grizzly bears. Visitors can often spot these animals in the park’s meadows and forests.
• The Snake River: The Snake River, a major waterway in the park, is known for its excellent whitewater rafting and fishing opportunities.
• The Teton Range: The Teton Range is named after the Teton Peak, the highest point in the park at 13,776 feet.
• Jenny Lake: Jenny Lake, one of the park’s most popular destinations, offers stunning views of the Teton Range and is a great place for boating, hiking, and fishing.
• Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park: Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks are often visited together, as they are located near each other and offer complementary experiences.

1 cup wild huckleberries, stems removed, washed
1 cup cane sugar
2 tsp fresh lemon juice
2 tsp powdered pectin (optional)

Thickening Options:
With Pectin: Add 2 tsp powdered pectin, boil for 1 minute, then remove from heat and let cool until set.

Without Pectin: Add 1 tsp lemon juice per cup of huckleberries, simmer for about 1 hour, or until temperature reaches 220°F.

For small batches (under 2 cups), using pectin is recommended to prevent burning.

Resident of the Month

Susan Terry

We are delighted to introduce Susan Terry, our Resident of the Month at The Oscar. Susan and her husband, Gene, have shared an incredible 56 years of marriage, after first meeting in college. They settled in Temple, Texas, where they lived for 25 years. During that time, Susan focused on raising their family as a stay-at-home mom while actively volunteering in her community. Once her children were older, Susan returned to school to earn her bachelor’s to become a teacher and then her master’s degree, after being asked to step into the role of principal.
Family has always been at the heart of Susan’s life. She and Gene are the proud grandparents of six wonderful grandkids, ranging in age from 20 to 6, all of whom live close by.
Beyond family, Susan’s other great passions include teaching, baking (her cinnamon bread is legendary), and gardening. One of the highlights of her career was the creation of a health science program at Temple High School, which trained students to become phlebotomists, EMTs, and unit clerks. Susan laughs now when she runs into her former students in medical offices.
Since moving to The Oscar, Susan has found a welcoming and supportive community. She describes it as a “warm and friendly neighborhood where people truly care for one another.” According to Susan, “It’s so easy to be here – the staff are so friendly, neighbors are wonderful, and there’s a real sense of connection and concern for each other.”
Outside of The Oscar, Susan has served her community in other impactful ways. For the past 15 years, she has been the chair of Keep Salado Beautiful and has served two terms on the Salado Board.
We are so proud to have such an inspiring and dedicated individual as part of our community.
Thank you, Susan, for all that you do!
