Associate of the Month

Eupiphanie "Phanie" Foukem

“Phanie” is our Associate of the Month!
Phanie has been an incredible Care Associate with us for one year. Her favorite part of the job is building deep connections with our residents. You can often find her reading with them, looking at old photos, or enjoying a lively game of bingo. She stays motivated and focused by making sure to take a break to recharge when she needs it.
One of the biggest challenges Phanie faces is the physically demanding nature of her role, but she always makes sure to ask for help when she needs it. She believes that strong teamwork and communication are what make a great coworker. Her best advice for others is to ask for help if you feel burned out and to always take a break.
Phanie appreciates that management always listens to her concerns. Outside of work, she loves going out for brunch and spending time with her friends. She balances her work and personal life by prioritizing a few days to recharge. The most important people in her life are her daughter and her mom.
Thank you for all you do, Phanie! We are so grateful to have you as part of our team.

German Music Legacy

Alexa, play Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 4, BWV 1049, Allegro

This concerto is full of life and beauty, with the flute, violin, and harpsichord leading the entire orchestra in joyful dialogue. At the time, Bach himself would often direct the ensemble from the harpsichord but he was also the most skilled violinist of is era, so you can picture him conducting from the harpsichord with a violin in hand just as easily—an image that perfectly captures the spirit of this vibrant masterpiece.

Paw-sident of the Month

This month, we are thrilled to celebrate our Pet of the Month, Emma! This sweet 7-year-old Anatolian Shepherd Dog is more than just a beloved companion—she’s a hero who has truly shown the spirit of our community.

Emma recently proved that our furry friends look out for one all in a powerful way. When she noticed a fellow resident in need, she quickly got her owner’s attention with persistent whining. Together, they were able to get help for the person. Emma’s quick thinking and caring nature are a perfect example of the compassionate spirit that makes our community so special.

The Benefits of a Four-Legged Friend
The bond we share with pets like Emma goes beyond companionship. They offer incredible benefits that can improve our health and well-being.

Boosted Physical Health: Having a dog encourages a more active lifestyle. Daily walks and playtime are great for keeping you moving, which can improve cardiovascular health and mobility.
Reduced Stress: The simple act of petting a dog can lower your heart rate and reduce stress. Their calm presence brings a sense of peace to your day.

Enhanced Social Life: Dogs are fantastic at bringing people together. They can be a great way to meet and connect with other residents, whether you’re at a community event or just out for a stroll.
Emma’s heroic act reminds us that dogs truly are family members, motivators, and social connectors.
Thank you, Emma, for being such a good girl and for looking out for our residents!

Welcome to Germany
Around the World with Atlas

Germany’s history stretches back to ancient tribes such as the Saxons, Franks, and Goths, whose resilience left a mark on Europe’s foundations. From the crowning of Charlemagne in 800 AD to the rise of the Holy Roman Empire under Otto I, the medieval period saw the growth of a diverse cultural and political landscape. Moments of transformation, like Martin Luther’s Protestant Reformation, sparked new ideas that influenced the world far beyond Germany’s borders.

In the centuries that followed, the rise of Prussia and the eventual German unification in 1871 brought together a patchwork of regions into a modern and power nation.

Though the 20th century was marked by hardship and division, after two awful wars, Germany was in ruin and divided by a wall, years of division goes by until the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the re-unification of Germany opened the path to a new chapter. Today, Germany stands as a symbol of resilience and renewal—celebrated for its music, philosophy, literature, and innovations, as well as its role as a cultural and economic leader in Europe.

Resident of the Month

Vicki May

Please join us in congratulating Vicki May, our wonderful Resident of the Month for October!
Since moving in, Vicki has cherished the incredible friendships she’s made. She loves the people who live here and enjoys the lively social events, exercise classes, live music, and special occasions like our murder mystery dinners and high tea parties.

Originally from Indianapolis, Vicki grew up in the Midwest and has lived in many places, including Florida, Colorado, and Texas. She has a deep love for travel and has created some truly cherished memories on her adventures. One of her favorite trips was visiting the ruins of Pompeii, a place she had dreamed of seeing since she learned about it in grade school. Other treasured memories include holding a koala bear in Australia, visiting Tahiti, and, of course, meeting her husband, Sam.

Vicki’s hobbies are as diverse as her travels.
. She also had a passion for traveling and going on cruises, making mosaics, and was an avid scuba diver.
Vicki shared one of the biggest challenges in her life has been adapting to being blind. However, with the incredible support of her husband and various organizations, she is navigating this challenge with remarkable strength. She is especially grateful for the staff members who have gone above and beyond to help her with her vision issues.

When asked what makes her happy, Vicki’s answer is simple: waking up every day, her amazing and supportive husband, Sam, and her two dogs, Sandy and Bailey.

For anyone considering a move to a senior living community, Vicki offers some wise advice: “Shop around, do your research, compare communities, and find what works best for you and your lifestyle.” The most important lesson she has learned in life is that life is short, so you should enjoy every minute of it.
Congratulations again, Vicki! We are so glad to have you as a part of our community.
