James Bowdish was born on July 4, 1944, in Tollersville, Long Island, New York. He was raised in Bernardsville, New Jersey, where his love for music became an important part of his early life.
During high school, James was an accomplished clarinetist and earned the distinguished position of first chair. His musical talent led to his selection for the All-American Band, giving him the extraordinary opportunity to tour and perform in ten European countries.
James attended Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where he met his wife, Jenny. She later introduced him to Florida, where they built a life centered on family, faith, and service. James continued his education at Jackson University Law School, graduating with high honors.
The accomplishment James is most proud of is his service in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He served for four years and achieved the rank of captain in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. As defense counsel, James had the important responsibility of representing and defending soldiers. His military service reflected his strong belief in justice, fairness, and standing up for others.
Following his military service, James settled in Stuart, Florida, and began a remarkable 50-year career as a lawyer with the Crary Buchanan law firm. He practiced commercial litigation and was widely respected for his professionalism, integrity, and commitment to the truth.
James regularly attended St. Mary’s Church and remained active in his church community. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, golfing, baseball, and cheering for Wake Forest football.
Above all, James is a man of truth, family, faith, and service. He is known as a kind, honorable, and genuinely wonderful man. We are proud to recognize and celebrate James Bowdish as our Resident of the Month!
