Memory Care Goes Bowling

At The Canopy we believe in enriching experiences that spark joy and foster connection among our residents. Recently, our Memory Care residents had the opportunity to embark on a special outing to the local bowling alley, and it was an afternoon filled with amusement, friendship and strikes!
Donning their bowling shoes, residents embraced the Spirit of friendly competition, and celebrated every strike and spare with enthusiasm. Whether they were experienced bowlers, or trying their hand at bowling for the first time, everyone joined the fun.
For many residents bowling provided a sense of accomplishment and empowerment as they navigated the lanes and aimed for a perfect shot. The pride that lit up their faces with each successful roll served as a reminder of the resilience and Spirit that defines our community.
Looking ahead we are committed to continuing to provide our residents with heartening experiences that promote well-being, happiness and a sense of purpose. Whether it’s going bowling, a scenic drive, or a visit to a ranch, we strive to create moments that matter. In June we will be visiting Starkey Ranch, and are looking forward to the unique experience provided there.

Brain & Alzheimer's Awareness Month

Brain & Alzheimer's Awareness Month

This month is Brain and Alzheimer’s Awareness, which serves as a vital opportunity to shed light on the impact of neurological conditions, particularly Alzheimer’s disease, on individuals, families and communities worldwide. This month-long observance is dedicated to raising awareness, promoting education, and advocating for research to better understand and address these debilitating conditions.

During Brain and Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, efforts are made to educate the public about the warning signs of Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Recognizing symptoms such as memory loss, confusion, difficulty with language and changes in mood or behavior can lead to early detection and intervention, improving quality of life for those affected.

Advocacy for research funding is another critical aspect of Brain and Alzheimer’s Awareness Month. While progress has been made in understanding the underlying mechanisms of Alzheimer’s disease, there is still much to learn.

In honor of Brain and Alzheimer’s Awareness, we have partnered with Visiting Angels, and towards the end of June our Memory Care unit will be creating art that will later be auctioned to help fund further research. By working collaboratively, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected and strive towards a future where Alzheimer’s is no longer a threat to our loved ones and future generations.

FL State Parks

There are 175 state parks and 9 state trails in the U.S. state of Florida which encompass more than 800,000 acres (320,000 ha)

Mother's Day Tea

Mother's Day Tea

Recently, we had the privilege of hosting a Mother’s Day tea to celebrate the remarkable women in our community and the meaningfulness of motherhood.

We wanted to spoil the Mother’s in the community, and went all out with decorating the Multipurpose Room, with lace table clothes, flowers and towers of tea sandwiches and pastries.

As we celebrated Mother’s Day, we reflected on the profound impact that mothers have on our lives and the world around us. Whether it’s the love, guidance and wisdom they impart or the countless sacrifices they make for their families, mothers play a vital role in shaping our lives and nurturing our spirits.

We will continue to celebrate and honor the remarkable women in our community and the deep impact they have on our lives. Whether it’s through special events like the Mother’s Day tea or everyday moments of connection and care, we strive to create a nurturing environment where mothers and their loved ones can thrive and flourish.

The Mother’s Day tea was more than just a celebration – it was a tribute to the extraordinary women who fill our lives with love, joy and inspiration.

A Memorable Luncheon

A Memorable Luncheon

At The Canopy at Beacon Woods we believe in enriching the lives of our residents through engaging experiences and cultural outings. Recently, our residents had the pleasure of attending a special showing of the timeless classic, South Pacific, at the Suncoast Broadway Dinner Theater. It was an afternoon filled with excitement, music and laughter!
Upon arrival residents were greeted with warm hospitality and ushered to their seats. We were front row for the show, and as the lights dimmed residents were transported to the enchanting world of South Pacific.
Throughout the performance, residents shared moments of camaraderie, laughing together at the witty dialogue and tapping their feet to catchy tunes.
This experience is a testament to the power of cultural enrichment and the importance of nurturing meaningful experiences that enhance the quality of life for our residents.
As we look ahead, we are reminded of the importance of creating opportunities for residents to engage in cultural activities and explore new horizons. In June our Assisted Living will be visiting Weeki Wachee Springs, and experience a small slice of the beauty that Florida offers.

Recipe Spotlight

Mixed Berry Spinach Salad With Strawberry Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing

Ingredients:
5 ounces Baby Spinach
1 cup Strawberry (sliced)
½ cup Blueberry
½ Red Onion (thinly sliced)
1 Sweet Apple (cored, halved and thinly sliced)
1 cup Candied Walnuts (chopped)
1 cup Strawberry
¼ cup Balsamic Vinegar
¼ cup Extra Virgin Olive Oil
1 tablespoon Dijon Mustard
1 tablespoon Honey
1 clove Garlic (minced)
¼ teaspoon Salt
¼ teaspoon Pepper
⅔ cup Feta Cheese (as desired)

Directions:
For the dressing, push a straw through the strawberries from the tip to the green top to remove the hull. (Or you can cut it off with a knife!) Add the rest of the dressing ingredients. Blend until smooth. Refrigerate. Cut strawberries, apple, and onion into slices.
Combine all the salad ingredients in a large bowl. Drizzle with desired amount of dressing and toss to coat. (Spinach wilts easily, don’t add dressing until ready to eat!) Sprinkle feta cheese on top and serve.
