Hurricane Preparedness

Hurricane Preparedness

During this Hurricane Season, The Canopy at Beacon Woods is taking proactive steps to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents. We have a comprehensive hurricane preparedness plan in place, which includes detailed protocols for both sheltering in place and evacuation, should the need arise.
In the event that we decide to stay on premises, our facility is equipped with emergency supplies, including food, water, medical provisions and a backup generator. Our staff is trained to implement safety measure and provide continuous care throughout the storm, ensuring that residents remain safe and comfortable. We will maintain open lines of communication with local authorities and emergency services to stay informed about the hurricane’s progress and any necessary actions.
However, if evacuation becomes necessary, we have a well-coordinated plan to relocate residents to a safe location. Transportation will be arranged, and our staff will accompany residents to provide care and support during the move. To facilitate a smooth evacuation process, each resident is required to have a “bug out” bag.
This bag should include: three pairs of clothes, pajamas, underwear/briefs, toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, etc.).
Our commitment to hurricane preparedness reflects our dedication to providing a safe and secure environment for our residents. We aim to protect and support our community through any storm.

Veteran's Wall Dedication

Veteran's Wall Dedication

In May, we unveiled our Veteran’s Wall, honoring the veterans in our community. The unveiling, accompanied by a poignant pinning ceremony, stands as a testament to their bravery and dedication. The Veteran’s Wall is more than just a picture on a wall; it’s a symbol of the collective appreciation and lasting tribute to the men and women who have worn the uniform with honor. Located at the heart of our community, the Wall features pictures of the veterans in our community as a permanent reminder of their service.

The unveiling ceremony was a deeply moving event, attended by veterans, their families, and staff. Following the unveiling, a special pinning ceremony was held. Each veteran in attendance was individually recognized and presented with a certificate and commemorative pin. This small but significant gesture symbolized the community’s acknowledgment and appreciation of their service. The ceremony concluded with all the military branch service songs, and hearing our veterans and their families sing their branch songs was a moment of shared pride.

The Veteran’s Wall now stands as a beacon of gratitude and remembrance, ensuring that the legacy of our veterans is preserved.

Silver Tsunami

Silver Tsunami

The “silver tsunami,” a term used to describe a significant increase in the aging population that is rapidly transforming the landscape of assisted living. As baby boomers enter their senior years, the demand for assisted living facilities is set to surge. This demographic shift poses both challenges and opportunities for the industry, which must adapt to meet the evolving needs and preferences of a more discerning and diverse elderly population.
One of the primary impacts of the silver tsunami is the increased demand for assisted living spaces. According to the US Census Bureau, the number of Americans aged 65 and older is projected to nearly double by 2050, reaching 88 million. This growing population will require more housing options that offer not just basic care, but also a higher quality of life.
Moreover, the Silver Tsunami is ushering in a new era of expectations among seniors. Unlike previous generations, today’s seniors are more active, tech savvy and keen on maintaining their independence. As The Canopy at Beacon Woods grows we are more cognizant of what our residents needs and desires are, and cater to those wants.
The Silver Tsunami is a profound demographic shift that will significantly impact our community. To meet this challenge, we are integrating technology, addressing affordability and investing in our associates. By doing so, we can provide a supportive and enriching environment that meets the needs of our seniors.

We wanted to spoil the Mother’s in the community, and went all out with decorating the Multipurpose Room, with lace table clothes, flowers and towers of tea sandwiches and pastries.

As we celebrated Mother’s Day, we reflected on the profound impact that mothers have on our lives and the world around us. Whether it’s the love, guidance and wisdom they impart or the countless sacrifices they make for their families, mothers play a vital role in shaping our lives and nurturing our spirits.

We will continue to celebrate and honor the remarkable women in our community and the deep impact they have on our lives. Whether it’s through special events like the Mother’s Day tea or everyday moments of connection and care, we strive to create a nurturing environment where mothers and their loved ones can thrive and flourish.

The Mother’s Day tea was more than just a celebration – it was a tribute to the extraordinary women who fill our lives with love, joy and inspiration.

Outings

Residents on AL enjoyed a succulent lunch at the popular seafood restaurant Catches, for their June outing. The group enjoyed the scenic waterfront views and a delicious selection of fish and seafood. After lunch the residents enjoyed a scenic drive, and even stopped at the Historic Oelsner Indian Mound.
Meanwhile our Memory Care residents embarked on a sweet adventure to Starkey Market. This visit offered more than just homemade ice cream. As they savored their treats, they also had the opportunity to visit the nearby cows, making the outing both educational and enjoyable.

The interaction with the gentle cows and the serene farm setting provided a soothing and engaging experience, catering to the residents’ sensory and emotional needs.
Looking ahead, our AL residents are excited about their visit to the West Pasco Historical Society. This promises to be both educational and nostalgic, as they explore the rich history of the area through exhibits and stories. For our MC residents, by request they are visiting a pizzeria, to enjoy some New York Style pizza.
The Lifestyle departments commitment to organizing these diverse and enriching outings underscores our dedication to enhancing the quality of life for all of our residents. Each event is thoughtfully planned to cater to the unique needs and preferences of our community members, ensuring they remain active, engaged and connected.
